Description:

ASMI Air Intakes are just like all the others out there. Made out of aluminium and are made to fit the application make it simple to install. They give you everything you need to make it a great installation. It comes with a blue cone open air filter that can be used as dry or oiled (oil properly; filter oil is not supplied in the kit). They make custom Air Intakes as well. They cover all the Explorers and Rangers engines out there.

Got Wet All The Time
|
|
Good product for the dry weather. I had it in for about a week until I pulled it out because one day I drove to work and it was misting and then during work it poured like crazy. Well somehow my intake got wet (hood was closed and snuggly at that) and when I started it up I got a stumbling feeling. I knew exactly what it was. Decent Product though.

Less refined than other offerings, no name filter (base model)

I went for one of these intakes for my 5.0 because outside of MAC, it's pretty much all you'll find for the V8. I used their eBay store to purchase it. Service was good, they shipped right away and I got it fast. They also wanted to make sure I was getting the right version (there is a slight difference among years).
I never did install this intake in its entirety, but that was never the plan. I just wanted the metal intake tube to go with my custom intake (mostly Volant). The tube was not as shiny as the MAC offering (I used to have the SOHC version for MAC). I've since painted it with some Duplicolor high heat paint and it looks pretty good with my other Volant parts and C&L MAF. The couplers are pretty basic and the hose clamps could have come out of a local hardware store. Outside of the MAF holder and intake tube, this setup almost looks home made. MAC has a better method of supporting the filter and MAF. I still think MAC is a better option, but if you're on a budget, I don't think you'd go wrong. The included filter is no-name, but you do have the option of going with K&N (for higher price of course).
This is a basic setup, but it's a great for someone on a budget. If you want a more refined setup for not a lot more $$$, go with MAC.
