Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is a synthetic fluid designed to meets the demanding requirements of modern passenger vehicles. The synthetic base oil composition enables excellent performance even in the severest of operating conditions. It offers outstanding gear shifting and power transfer performance. Versus conventional ATF fluids, the inherently high viscosity index and stability of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF protects against thermal breakdown at high operating temperatures, while still providing outstanding performance at ambient temperatures as low as -54ºC (-65ºF).

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF combines synthesized hydrocarbon base oils and a superior balanced additive system to provide significantly higher levels of performance above conventional fluids. This unique, advanced technology has demonstrated extended drain capability, excellent friction retention, and low-temperature capability. Further, it helps to improve overall transmission durability and cleanliness.

Automatic transmissions should be checked for proper fluid levels at regular intervals, and the fluid should be changed at manufacturer-recommended intervals. However, this may vary due to your vehicle's operating conditions. Some manufacturers recommend more frequent changes of transmission fluid under severe driving conditions, such as heavy traffic, hot weather and trailer pulling.

I've been running Mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid in my Explorers's 5 speed manual transmission for probably 10 years. I had to replace my first tranny at only 60,000 miles. The second tranny has been filled with practically nothing, but Mobil 1 synthetic and it's run great. It now has about 90,000 miles on this transmission and a lot of you know what I do with my Explorer offroad.

I did try to run Redline synthetic tranny fluid once and it shifted so horribly I immediately drained the fluid and refilled with Mobil 1. With the Redline the shifting was VERY stiff.

Pros:	This fluid is readily available (you don't have to special order it).
Cons:	Synthetics are expensive, so some people don't want to spend the extra money.

This fluid is recommended for most applications. The only other fluid which feels comparable to this is the Hurst Hotshift which is not synthetic, and is a little cheaper. I just want to add an update to what was previously mentioned. I was in Pep Boys auto parts this week, and I was surprised to see the Hurst Hotshift now comes in synthetic. I haven't used the synthetic version, so I can't comment on it.
