Pros: Well thought out kit. Nice components. Great service
Cons: Bulbs are a tight fit in my Diamond Cuts

I did a ton of homework on HID conversion kits. I spent a lot of time over on hidplanet.com. What a bunch of HID snobs. My gawd, you MUST retrofit a setup using expensive projectors or you SUCK. What a bunch of anal retentive wankers! Anyhow, I digress.

HID conversions will not be as nice a a retrofit, but with good aiming, they look and work great. I scoured messageboards to see what they were saying about the assorted kits and I came across Xenondepot. I was stoked when I heard this guy is in Canada (Thornhill, Ontario my childhood home) too. Superb service. Always answers emails and is very helpful.

I opted for the 4300 kit. They also offer the same set with 6000K Ultinon bulbs. I researched the 4300 vs 6000 choice in depth. Over and over I read about how 6000 looks cool, but are not as effective. 4300 pretty much looks like Silverstar, but a fair bit whiter and MUCH brighter. 4300 is considered to be the brightest for every day driving. 6000 looks cool but is not as effective in certain driving conditions. Anything higher K rating than 6000K and you're doing it simply for looks. The brightness factor and effectiveness in all driving conditions diminishes greatly with >6000K bulbs.

Xenondepot use genuine rebased Philips bulbs and ballasts. They also include a heavy duty wiring harness. It comes boxed up nice and fast shipping to boot.

Installation was pretty simple. No instructions, but they provide a link to a very effective wiring diagram on their website. It was very simple to set up, but was a very tight fit with my Diamond Cut headlights. I ended up having to remove the o-rings to make it happen. Not a good long term solution, but so far it seems to be holding up pretty good. I'll mod something when the weather improves. I need to mess around with long-term ballast mounting as well.

These things are VERY bright. I haven't been flashed by anyone yet, and have been tweaking the aim here and there. I kept reading about once you try HID, you'll never go back. I'm sort of feeling that way too. No high beam, but I don't think I'll need them.

If you're looking to get a HID kit and want to get a quality setup, go Xenondepot. There are sites out there that are huge fan clubs for Xenondepot. They do make a great kit and you'll appreciate the fact he stands behind his kits. He ships all over the world too using DHL.

I'd give this kit a 10, except for the bulb fit issue. I'd give a 9.5 but can't.

March 2007 Update
-------------------------

I started having some issues with one light not igniting in certain conditions (usually cold weather). It was real close to my warranty period expiring and I contacted "Steve" at XD. A month or so later, the side packed on once and for all. We isoloted it to a faulty ballast. Warranty had expired at this point, but Steve still honoured the warranty and sent me out a new ballast. Now that's service you probably won't see from fly by night sellers of HID kits!
