Description: This is a Stant 12270T cooling system tester. It is connected to the radiator where the cap goes on. You remove the cap, and start to pump it up. If there is a weak point on a cooling system hose, it could blow out if there is too much pressure applied from this tool. If the hose blew out during this test, it was probably at a very weak point, and would have blown out eventually under normal stress. The tool is primarily made to test for leaks which occur when the cooling system reaches enough pressure to start to leak on its own. This allows you to test for leaks with the vehicle off, and cool. Some places like AutoZone loan them out with a deposit. Besides testing for leaks on hoses, it also tests for bad gaskets which could leak coolant.

Pros: great way to test your cap and system at home
Cons:

I borrowed my neighbors Stant tester a few months ago to test my cap and cooling system because I thought I had a leak somewhere. It is an easy to use tool and is a great way to tell if your system is sealed or not. It is also a great way to test your own radiator caps at home. I will eventually buy my own next time I have a need for it.

Pros: Very effective in finding cooling system leaks.
Cons: A bit costly for one time use. It gets hard to pump at higher pressures.

This tool is very useful for finding hard to locate cooling system leaks. It has saved me a lot of time, and the possibility of a hose blowing out during driving which was borderline (blew out during testing).
