Pros: Very powerful. Easy to use self locking blade clamp. Doesn't slow down under a heavy load. 4 position orbital action. Variable speed control.
Cons: Rubber cover over the front of the blade release rubbed out after the first use. Very heavy to hold. A little more expensive than an average reciprocating saw.

One nice feature about the Makita saw is that it is a true "tool-less" blade changing system. Other saws make you release a catch mechanism to insert the blade. This saw is much easier to use. You just "click" the blade into place. A spring loaded interlock catches the blade as soon as it enters the front of the saw. It does have a tab which you have to press to release the blade. The rubber cover (the part in the break out view #3 421894-4 1 PROTECTOR) got rubbed out after the first use. Makita replaced it under the warranty. It's possible the edge ripped from excessive heat build up, or possibly something might have rubbed against it. This saw also maintained the same amount of power under a heavy load. My old saw would slow down a bit, but not to the point where it was struggling. This saw felt the same no matter how much of a load I put on it. Another nice feature is that if a blade breaks off inside of it, it ejects when you push the release button. You don't have to struggle to get a piece out which has nothing to grab.
