I scored my XC2 from our good friend Doug at Bamachips.com. I had previously been using a SCT mult-position chip a la Apten. I later had Bama and Hyp write some programs for me and I sent them the chip for re-burn (major weakness of chip). I also experienced some connectivity issues with the chip which caused my Ex to run like crap (I don't really like stalling on the freeway while I'm in the fast lane!). Doug gave me some great pointers to get the chip to seat better, but I still don't like the hassle of a chip.
The XC2 is a much better option. Just plug it in to the OBD port and follow the instructions. Mine came pre-loaded with 3 sweet Bama tunes (87 Performance, 91 Torque, 91 Performance). Doug later sent me two mileage tunes via email (the real strength of a flasher). One of them caused a minor CEL which Doug fixed and emailed me the new file again. This is the real strength in the flasher. If I had the same issue with a chip, I would have had to return it back to Alabama (a LONG way from Alberta).
Putting tunes into the PCM is dead easy. The other functions of the flasher are pretty basic. It will clear codes etc, but I prefer the Actron reader I had already. More features. The software used to put new tunes into the flasher is pretty basic and has a pretty unpolished feel to it. Seems like SCT can put more into this side of the product. I haven't really used any of the other software products that came with the flasher. I let Doug do it for me!
I really like this tool. I did have to send it back to Doug when I scored a '99 Eddie Bauer (V8) after it was originally locked to my SOHC V6 in my '00 Sport (traded on the Eddie). The tunes that came with the re-burn were a bit wonky. Doug had some issues with a newer version of his writing software and the tunes caused my Ex to run like crap. I worked with Doug via email to troubleshoot the tunes and he got to the bottom of it. The tunes make my V8 run much nicer.
This is definitely a superb product. I can't give it a 10 because I think SCT has to polish up the whole package a bit more. I've also seen lots of people on the sctflash.com forums have problems with their tunes and the flasher itself. SCT seems like a first rate organization and I'm sure they'll get the bugs out.
