Pros: Not obnoxiously bright, sets and adjusts itself, battery backup keeps settings and sounds alarm, day of week display
Cons: Cannot fully turn off DST adjustment, if you don't live in a DST area

I've bought many clock radios over the years, and have had to take most of them back because the display was so bright it kept me awake at night. This one not only has a red display (red does not glare at night), but you can also adjust the brightness. Apart from that, it has a lot of other great features that make it the best clock radio I've come across.

In addition to not being obnoxiously bright, the indicators on the display light up as words (eg, "ALARM 1," "AM," etc.) instead of dots on the side of the display. This is great when it's dark, and you have no idea what those dots around the time are supposed to mean.

The alarm clock I used before this one had no back-up, and would lose it's time and alarm settings with every power glitch. If this happened at night, I would most likely be late the next morning. The Emerson radio not only has a battery back-up, but it takes it a step further--it'll even sound the alarm if it's set to go off and the power is still out. (It'll just beep, even if the radio is set.) Plus, it has a low-battery light on the front, so you'll know before the power goes out that the battery is dead. It's a lithium button cell battery and is supposed to last 10 years, we'll see.

The radio frequency appears on the clock display when you're adjusting, so you can see it in the dark and know that you're spot on the right frequency. Once again, this can be impossible with most other clock radios especially at night.

The clock also has a day-of-week display, and a feature that lets you set one or both of the alarms to sound every day, weekdays only, or weekends only.

The clock automatically adjusts for Daylight Saving Time, however, if you live in an area that does not observe DST there is no way to turn that feature off. Doesn't bother me too much as we do have DST here, but I will be moving in the next couple of years and would like to have it work well wherever I go. The DST start and end dates can be adjusted via instructions on the Emerson website should Congress screw with them again. HOWEVER; keep in mind if you plan on buying this on eBay, the clocks made before 2006 cannot have the settings changed and the DST will adjust on the wrong day, forcing you to adjust the clock not twice but FOUR times a year. Make sure you check it!

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this clock radio. Although designing a clock radio seems like a simple task, very few actually are something to write about.
