Description:

This digital code reader is a diagnostic tool that is specially designed to work with your vehicle's test connector to communicate with MCU, and EEC-IV computers. It uses electronics designed to retrieve engine, and transmission diagnostic trouble codes from the vehicle's computer but does not generate codes. The code reader serves as a key that links to, and opens communication with the vehicle's computer to prompt the computer to perform self tests, and to receive test results or retrieve codes.

Pros:	Cheap, easy to use, and is capable of storing the codes.
Cons:	It's not a scanner, so you have to look up the code definitions.

This tool is easy to use. You connect it to the EEC-IV test port, and it will start to work when you switch the ignition on, and then turn it on. It comes with a book of code definitions. This is only designed to work on older EEC-IV/OBD-I Ford systems. This tool has its own battery, and is not powered by the vehicle's battery. Amazon has the best price on them for $25 with free shipping. I was not so lucky to get that kind of deal when I purchased mine from another online distributor.

I just picked one up for my '94 XLT after ford wanted $90.00 just to pull the codes. None of the auto parts stores could pull codes off of anything older than a '96. I paid $29.00 at O'Reilly Auto Parts and it was worth every penny. It is so easy to use even a moron such as myself can use it. If you own an older Ford, this belongs in your toolbox.
