Description: Bar’s Leaks® Liquid Copper™ Block Seal Intake & Radiator Stop Leak seals larger leaks regular stop leaks won’t. One step formula permanently repairs leaks in gaskets, radiators, heater cores, intake manifolds, blocks, heads and freeze plugs. Use on cars, trucks, vans, SUV’s and RV’s. Contains an antifreeze compatible sodium silicate liquid glass formula, so no draining of the cooling system is required. Will not harm the cooling system when used properly. Use with all types of antifreeze including conventional green or blue (Silicate-based) and extended life red/orange or yellow (OAT/HOAT) coolant.

Pros: Worked as advertised, and didn't plug up anything
Cons: Copper bits are hard to get rid of

I used this product about a month ago when I thought I was having an issue with coolant getting into the engine. Turned out to be something else, but I do have an external coolant leak in the lower intake gasket that results in a lot of gunk on the head. This product appears to have cleared that up. I no longer lose coolant from the radiator or smell it while running the engine either. It did not plug up the radiator or heater core, but I only used half the bottle. For a cooling system the size of the Explorer's, you're supposed to put the whole thing in.

This particular stuff seems to be relatively new. There isn't much as far as reviews or opinions on it, and its long term effects are unknown.

After using the product I began to become uneasy with the fact it has copper in it. I believe our radiators as well as other cooling system parts are aluminum, and as such the copper isn't a great thing to have in it. After a few flushes with both water and a flush chemical, I still noticed some copper bits remaining in the system. I will probably need to do a good backflush to completely be rid of it once and for all, likely when I get the chance to change the gasket and be done with it for good.

I also remembered after using this stuff that Ford has a Motorcraft stop leak tablet they actually recommend for use in the Explorer. It is supposedly the same as Bar's Leaks tablets. I would recommend using that instead, since it's recommended by the manufacturer.

Update: I went to top off the system today and noted that there was as much copper pieces floating on top of the coolant as there was before flushing. I flushed the system 4 times. This stuff is hard to get rid of. I wouldn't use it again.

I used this to address a lower intake leak. You just pour it in, top off the coolant and idle the car for 5 minutes. I ran my X for 10 minutes because it was a cold day. The leak has stopped and it did not appear to negatively impact anything. Heat is working, temperature gauge is still responding like it always did and the truck is not overheating. I intend to leave this in the system until my next coolant change which would be early next year. I will update if I encounter any negative results.

This is a follow up to my prior post. I had this in my cooling system for 700 miles when I noticed the upper radiator house had collapsed. I replaced the radiator cap and the issue resolved. Not sure if the stuff caused or contributed to the cap failure but if the cap fails again that should be a good indicator.

Further update to my prior post. After another 700 miles my radiator cap has failed again. While the cap does allow fluid to go into the reservoir it does not allow fluid to be drawn back into the system which is causing the upper hose to collapse. I will drain the cooling system To get the stop leak out and replace the cap and probably upper hose even though it is still in good shape.

Further update to my prior posts. I flushed the system, replaced the thermostat and radiator cap. I have now gone 1,000 miles without any issues. My bottom line assessment is this stuff does work but I would not leave it in the system for an extended period of time. I would not hesitate to use it again.

Pros: cheep, easy to use,
Cons: had to reuse

Getting that cyl 8 error, so I know the head gasket is going bad. Used 1 bottle and replaced the plugs... worked for 3 mths/3500 miles. Got the cyl 8 error and have a wet plug. Reused another bottle and cleaned the plug. Running fine so far.

(Next time will try the heavy duty head gasket sealer for $30 that just came out.)
