Pros: Feature packed, looks good in the dash, sounds great
Cons: Cheesy animations, too many features!

I've been a big fan of Pioneer since I learned the hard way long ago that spending big bucks on chi chi brands like Denon and Nakamichi doesn't necessarily guarantee the best performance and features for the money. I used to overspend on audio equipment in several cars and always go soaked when I tried to sell it later. I was putting a system in my '00 Contour SVT and told the salesman I wanted the biggest bang for the buck and he recommended Pioneer and that's all I use now.

I must admit, I bought this head unit for the wrong reasons. My last Pioneer in my '00 Sport was all silver and black and looked great in the Sport because I'd modded the radio bezel to silver (from a '02 Sport). The head unit stuck out like a sore thumb when I put it in my new ride ('99 Eddie Bauer) and the black bezel. This was the only Pioneer model out there that looked good in the black bezel.

This head unit has a ton of features and it's a bit mind boggling how to use them. So many audio adjustments. To be honest, I don't know what 1/2 of them do. I tried to use this automatic calibrator thing (they supply the mic, you close the doors on your ride and let Pioneer decide on the best settings). It sounded like crap. I resorted to spending many days tweaking the sound to my liking and it's great now. I was running the head unit to my stock speakers for a few weeks and it has enough power to make them sound pretty good. I now have my Fosgate amps and Alpine 5 X 7 speakers installed (R in front, S in ear) and it sounds great. I must admit, I hate those cheesy animation choices that come with this deck (and pretty much all the higher end decks these days). I keep mine on a basic screen and it looks fine. Supposedly I can upload other animations to the unit, but that won't be happening any time soon. If I do that, I may as well get spinners as well.

As with all my other Pioneer purchases, I expect many years of trouble-free operation from this one as well. I'm using the steering wheel remote that came with my other head unit and works great. I lost the OEM steering wheel controls when I went aftermarket and I didn't feel like wiring up that aftermarket kit that would allow me to use my OEM controls with this deck.
