Pros: Very useful manual
Cons: limited photos and of marginal quality

Every Explorer owner should have this book.

Very helpful for the DIYer.

Pros: Pretty useful manuals
Cons: sometimes does not explain everything

Everyone should have one of these manuals for every vehicle that they own. The only problem that I have with it is that it sometimes doesn't explain everthing clearly. Especially for V8 applications.

Pros: Lots of good info
Cons: Vague on some issues. Spread too thin.

This manual does have lots of great info. I've never tried Chilton's but Haynes seemed to be recommended much more than Chilton's when I entered the market for one of these manuals. I think Haynes should have split this manual into two. One for 1st generation (91-94) and one for 2nd (95-01). They'd be able to address issues better that way. Unlikely that will happen now that we're into the 4th generation in '06.

Overall a very good resource to have on many issues, but be ready to dig deeper. That's why this web source is such a valuable resource. I use those eBay CDs/DVDs to supplement Haynes as well.

Pros: Cheap enough to put your greasy fingers on it
Cons: Lot of pictures missing

For my 1992 Explorer there was some missing pictures and some that was shown for recent models but not mine. But thats ok in general.

Pros: Lots of diagnostic info
Cons: Not detailed enough for the OHV engines, Not detailed enough

Has enough info to get the work done, changed the right passenger wheel hub with the book, but could have been more detailed, for ex, changing the headlight sets isn't explaned very clearly in the book, doesn't tell you how to take off the grille.... but it's self explanatory once you get the screws off.

Should have published two books, either way both 1st and 2nd gens are very similar...
