Description:

Tap into the power of portable digital music with the iPodŽ adapter. Start with any Pioneer headunit equipped with an IP-Bus connection and use the optional adapter CD-IB100 to link your iPod to your sound system for - literally - days of your favourite digital music. Pepping up a cross-country trip or spicing up your daily commute, the Pioneer iPodŽ adapter also does double duty as an iPod charger.
YOUR iPOD IN YOUR AUTOMOBILE? JUST ASK PIONEER.
Free to drive:
Simply connect your iPodŽ to the Pioneer iPodŽ adapter for distraction-free, hands-on-the-wheel safe driving. Your iPod completely integrates into your familiar sound system. Control it just like you normally handle your in-car audio: right on your headunit, using the remote, or best yet, using your steering wheel remote control.
Free to choose:
Make the call on the in-car positioning of your iPodŽ, once youve hooked up. Anywhere is practically possible: conveniently at your side in the console or on the passenger seat, on the dashboard, or safely tucked away in the glove compartment. This way you can easily decide whether you want your iPod close at hand, or well out of sight of thieves.
Free to listen: Just a quick glance at your headunit says it all: song, artist, album and more. Via the headunit or remote, you scan the music you want by playlist, genre, artist, album or simply search for a specific song.*
Bet you never thought a Pioneer headunit could be this cool? Clearly, it is time to indulge your digital lifestyle and enjoy thousands of songs on your iPodŽ without a single tad of quality loss - all thanks to your Pioneer iPodŽ adapter.

Limited control of iPod

I scored this unit because it's made for Pioneer (my head unit manufacturer). Install was dead simple as well. It's tucked in behind my radio bezel behind the head unit. The unit charges my iPod as well. I have the connector leading to my glove box to keep the iPod out of site and out of mind. The iPod is fully controlled by your head unit so no need to have the iPod visible.
This is where the love affair ended. I find the controls of my iPod to be very confusing now. I have a playlist I created and use often when using my iPod outside of the car. I just put it on the playlist and hit "play" so I don't have to navigate much. It really is a pain to move around your songs with this unit. To make matters worse, there are very few characters actually visible on the HU when a song is playing. You also only have a choice of only one view. I choose "by artist" and most band names get truncated big time. To see which song you're listing to would be pointless. Not only difficult to get at, but with so few characters it would make little sense anyhow.
I love Pioneer products, but they missed the boat on this one. It may be my choice of head unit that restricts my functionality (some Pioneer units are more geared to this adapter), but I still feel Pioneer did a crappy job with this product and just jumped on the iPod bandwagon way too fast. One thing I do like is the sound quality of the iPod through my system.
If you want a high quality solution to listen to your iPod in your car, try something else if you're a Pioneer user.
