So the camera started working by itself last night :dunno: Hopefully it stays like that.

Guys, there is breaking news!

I have finally found a 60$ solution to the camera issue.
Bought 60$ FL1T-19G490 FoMoCo camera from a store on aliexpress with free shipping to Qatar. I was their first customer by the way.

Got the camera today after 7 days. Seemed identical to the OEM camera. Didn't care for 110F temperature outside and did the replacement job myself. When I put the car to R, violaaaa!! It works. For the camera guidelines, I calibrated the camera using Forscan.

The camera quality is HD, much better than my earlier 2011 model camera. Also, the night results seem to be much brighter. The camera I purchased seems to be OEM as it had all the markings and writings of the OEM camera, with the manufacturing date of 2015.

You're welcome.

Great work! I ordered the same one off of eBay after reading your post and it came today. Can't wait to see how it works. Thanks for posting that. If it works that's a lot of saved money. Did you use forscan cabled to the a laptop or can you do it using the Bluetooth app on an iPad?

Hi benny18,

Good to know someone got benefit out of my post.
If your explorer is equipped with active guidelines, only then you are required to calibrate the camera. This can be done via full version of Forscan, which to my knowledge is available for PC only.

The normal static camera guidelines will be set by camera module automatically without the need for Forscan.

Link for Forscan procedure#

Oh nice. Yes I just have the normal straight lines. With the red yellow and green boxes. Active is the ones that turn when you turn the wheel then, correct? Thanks

Yes that is correct. Active guidelines are only there if you have Active Park Assist.

Mine has started to go bad too. What a shame that Ford feels the need to rip us off on the replacement. Thanks to those of you figuring out the "reasonable" alternatives.

Installed the new camera today. Doesnt work. Old one still works intermittently so I swapped them out a few times and the old one worked but the new one doesn't. They look exactly the same. Not sure what to do now.

... New one is on the left... Obviously

Mine also had the same part no and date of manufacture as the one on left. Too bad yours doesn't work. Does the seller you bought from offer a warranty?

Mine is working without any issue.
I bought from aliexpress and it has very buyer friendly policies. Payment to seller is released only if buyer agrees with the product after usage.

I am getting intermittent faults on the rear camera, where there is no image and unavailable message. Has anyone had to repair/replace the unit, and what should expected cost be? Is there an aftermarket preferred fix?

I had the same thing happen to my front camera (2016 Platinum) the first 3 months that I had it. It was under warranty but it took them a 4 days to replace it because it effected the navigation for lane assist.

As for cost to replace it, they can be quite expenseice to replace if you go to a dealer. I couldn't see your profile. What year and Model do you have?

2012 limited.

My explorer backup camera quit working the other day. After reading through most of this thread I found the replacement most are using on ebay and now when I put the car in reverse I have an image again.....BUT...its upside down! Is the fix for this calibrating with Forscan? I don't really want to drop another $70 on a Bluetooth OBD tool if it is not going to correct the issue. Anyone else run into this?

Welcome to the Forum.
When a camera is replaced, the new one has to be programmed to the vehicle. Normally the dealer hooks up their IDS tool to do that. I'm not sure what it involves. According to a post in this thread, recalibration can be done in about 5 minutes with Forscan. Several members also had a reversed image but I don't believe they ever replied with what was done to correct it. I think there was a member who also had an upside down image but I haven't been able to find it so far.

Thanks for the reply Peter. I was able to get my hands on a wireless OBD scanner. I downloaded FORScan and performed the rear camera calibration. I get about 8% through the calibration when the test aborts and says to scan for DTC's. The only one that shows up is a B115E:08-48 error, but is says it's not an active fault. I'm able to reset it and the only time it comes back is when I try to run the calibration routine. Anyone have any experience with this error? The new camera works..when i put the vehicle in reverse, I see an image, although it is upside down and reversed, but an image nonetheless. I tried putting the old camera back in but I immediately get a DTC saying electrical error. It goes away with the new camera.

Been having the same problems. Took some advise from the page and ordered the FL1T-19G490-AC. First one came in destroyed in shipping. Second one came in boxed and perfect condition. Exact fit and exact connections. Get a the black screen contact dealer still. Went to the dealer tried the reconfigure and everything. It sees the camera but won't turn on. Ford dealer says the camera is bad. Any thoughts?

Original camera out of the car is DB5T-19G490-AC.

Thanks for any input.
