I'm getting a horrible gravelly/vibrating/echo sound from my lower drivers door speaker. It's bad enough that I direct the sound out of the rear speakers only. Through crutchfield I discovered a 6.5 speaker would fit (later also learned that it fits with some kinda bracket) as a replacement. I'm discovering through research that a 6x9 is what's in that spot now behind the door.

My question is, will another 6x9 to replace it be the simplest way of fixing my issue, plug and play, with the existing setup as the original speaker sits now....or will I need some kind of bracket anyway so may as well keep the pioneer 6x5 I bought and order a bracket?

I'm looking for a quick fix, nothing fancy. Just want to correct the sound distortion coming from that door via music and Bluetooth phone conversations.

Thanks for any imput.

I replaced all of my door speakers a while back in my '15 sport. If my memory serves right, you would still need an adapter for a 6x9 anyway. Easiest way would probably be to order the adapter and wiring harness from crutchfield. Its a super simple install and they provide instructions if you need. However, keep in mind if you only replace one speaker it may be louder or quieter than the other door depending on the speaker specs.

I know its been a few weeks but here to offer a little help if its still needed. I ordered 4 speakers off crutchfield. Except I didn't do any research and I did order the 6.5in speakers and came with an adapter for the front doors. It was a terrible replacement because I lost all the bass. So I reordered 6x9s for the front and put the 6.5in in the rear doors. I still wasn't to happy so I put 6x9s in the rear doors too. Metra makes a kit for 6.5 in front and in the rear door. They also make a 6x9 kit for the front that fit perfectly. Now I couldn't get the stock door tweeter to work with the aftermarket speaker. Crutchfield sent a wiring adapter for the speaker but still didn't work so I just unplugged it. Didn't really need it anymore anyway. Here is my post from when I added 6x9 in the rear doors. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...-mount-6x9-in-rear-doors.458930/#post-3606173

PS I did all the speaker upgrades because I had some distortion and crackling coming from the driver speaker. Well I replaced all 4 speakers and still had some of the same problem just not as bad. I really wanted more bass anyway so I got a 5 channel amp installed and now I'm having some random distortion again. I am really not sure what is it because the factory amp is replaced so it can't be that or the new speakers. All I can think it could be is the actual wires to the speakers.
