2016 Explorer Platinum
My wife and I recently purchased a 2016 Platinum. We love the vehicle. Before buying it, I searched this forum to see if anyone had issues with the seat backs not cooling as designed, but didn't find anything.

Last summer we bought a 2015 F150 with the cooled seats option. Unfortunately due to a design flaw, the seat backs do not cool as they are supposed to. I was very disappointed when I found this out. The fix Ford came up with doesn't work either and several people have had their seats damaged when the dealership attempted the fix.

I recently heard on the F150 forum that this may also be an issue with the Explorers. I was curious if any members have had an issue with their seat backs not cooling and/or getting warm instead of cooling. So far ours works properly but it's also cold out so its not the best conditions to test them in. We really LOVE the vehicle and I hope we are not going to go through the same headaches we have with our F150.

Thanks!!!!!!

Welcome to the Forum. :wavey:

So far the cooling has worked fine with our EXP and F150. No issues. Both will freeze you out...

Is it only the seat backs that have issues or the bottoms too?

Unless both seats on my 2016 Sport are defective or different than the Platinum, only the bottom and not the seat back are heated/cooled.
I assume this to be the design as the symbol only shows an image for the bottom portion of the seat, as being able to be heated or cooled.

I don't remember if the seat backs cool or not. The seats cool well though. It's really nice to go heated and then cool. It helps my back. The messaging seats works well also.
I don't know that I answered your question.

The seat backs cooled on my 2011 Ltd.

Does this work on Android? Or is only for Apple products like SIRI eye's Free addition? Android's are always last on Ford's list, I may never buy a Ford again unless they change this. Oh wait, I use an iPhone, nvm.

The seat backs are supposed to cool as well. And the equipment for heating/cooling is the same across all trim levels for the 2016 that have the cooling feature. Not sure about the 2015 or earlier.

There is a blower motor in the back and bottom of the seat to heat and cool it called a TED. It's supposed to take in fresh air through the perforations in the seat back and exhaust the hot air back through those same holes.

I have this issue with my F150, which is the Lariat trim line. Ford came up with a "fix" for the F150's but it doesn't work. And many F150 seats have been damaged during the fix.

The cooling function on our Explorer has worked ok in the cold so far. But after the TED warms up during use, the cold air flow to the seat back gets less and less. And when it warms up outside, I have a bad feeling it will barely work, if at all, like my F150.

Thanks for that info. It would also be helpful if you added the trim level of your to your profile so it shows in the margin. Thanks.

Done! Sorry, not that tech savvy. Didn't think about that when I signed up.

Thank you. That info can be handy at times when replying to certain issues. Happy motoring.:)

My 2016 sport has the heated and cooled seats and the seat bottom definitely has more airflow than the back portion.

Sometimes I feel like the back portion is pushing air pretty well and sometimes I can't feel it at all.

The cooled seats on our 14 dont work great in hot weather. Since there is no 'cooling element' in the seat, you are essentially using a fan to move the already hot air through the seat. The fan isnt that powerful so f its 95+ degrees outside and you enter your car (which is prob 110+ air temp wise), then it will take your cars AC to bring the air temp down in the vehicle before the cooled seats have a chance to take effect.

That has been my experience. We had a rental 2015 MKv (that the Lincoln Explorer?) that had the exact same problem while in Vegas last summer.

Lincoln doesn't have a direct equivalent to the Explorer. The MKX is like the Edge. They don't have an MKV.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully all will be ok when summer hits.

My seats on 2016 explorer Platinum only cool/heat the seat and not the back. The dealership said they only heat the seat and not the back. Is the correct? My salesman said different.
