Whats In A Name? It was hot humid august night. The winds have all but vanished. I was doing my best to keep the sweat out of my eyes. The A/C was dying in my 94 Explorer, lovingly named "Pugly", and there was no relief in sight. I decided it was time to stop throwing good money into bad. I was gonna do the unthinkable,.......I was going to commit the most heinous crime of them all! I was going to trade Pugly in for a newer model! Oh the heart break! The insanity of it all! I couldn't believe the thoughts were even going through my head. I managed to get the old girl back home, to her resting place. She seemed at ease in her familiar surroundings. I had to come up with an explanation to let her know of my evil plan. So i just...
Blueka's "Betty" Registry I thought it was about time I put one up.. I've got a '97 4.0 SOHC UK spec Explorer.. I bought it in Dec 2005 and the next day all the timing slipped and wrecked one side of the engine! It was off the road for 6 months while I saved up and found someone who knew how to fix it. This is how it looked when I got it back:- After driving it for a while I decided that I didn't like all the chrome on it so got some '99 spec bumpers for it. I also changed to a slightly newer grille with a darker centre, thought it looked better than the old one. I then decided I was bored of the rear end and did the '99 rear end swap.. although I managed to bend the rear hatch and it don't sit straight...

“Three ashtrays, two doors, one cup holder, and zero Air Bags” As it sits today. . . (December 2023) As it sat last year. . . (2022) Edit: From here on down was the write-up I did for my first Explorer before it was totaled in a commuting accident in March 2017. The write-up for the new (to me) Explorer that was acquired in May 2020 starts on page 2, post #31. I am the second owner of this vehicle, purchasing it in April 1993. It has been a daily driver, crisscrossed the States multiple times, sat for a few years in storage, and now is dedicated to four-wheeling trips, camping excursions, and hauling the motorcycle to various “track days”. It is not a hard-core rig, but is set up well for the types of four-wheeling I enjoy...
hi everyone, my name is tim . i live in selkirk, manitoba, canada and as if this date that i am posting this, i am 36 years old. i bought my sport in jan 05 from a local ford dealer. it had 111,000KM's on it. this is the second sport i have owned. it was sitting on the lot for about 8 months before i came along. i am the third owner (i was able to track down the person that traded it in, and they got it from a friend, who bought it new in 98). i started to do a few things to it after i first got it, then i found this site, and all hell broke lose! i've never been satisfied with something the everyone else has, so i started to tinker with it even more. mods include interior installed factory tilt...
Thanks for checking out my thread! I've owned about a dozen 1st & 2nd gen Explorers over the last 8 years. I've done Dana 44's on a 1st gen, coilovers on a 2nd gen, uniball uppers, leveling kits, lift kits, fabricated a handful of front ends, shock hoops, bedcages, the list goes on and on. For my latest truck, I began my search towards the end of last summer & actually started out looking for a 2nd gen, (I really like the ones with the AC in the center console). Thankfully this truck was not needed as a daily driver, so I was able to take my time. I happen to stumble across this extremely clean 1st gen that reminded me so much of my favorite Explorer, which was also a white 94 with black wheels. I could not pass this truck up. Here in...

This is my 2003 Explorer, Centennial Edition. I found it at a tiny dealer way up in Sedro-Woolley, WA, on January 21, 2022. I was on a plane to Bellingham, WA, the morning of January 22. 4.6L, AWD, every option except the rear DVD. She had 195,000 miles when I got her, and I immediately drove her almost 1000 miles home to Sparks, NV. With some exceptional help from one of our members, I was able to determine the following... Out of the 4000 planned Centennial Edition Explorers, 3167 were built. Of those, only 304 are all-wheel drive. Of those, 272 are equipped with the 4.6L engine. This one, as optioned, is one of thirty-seven. The first set of photos are how I got her. I've been after one of these for over ten years, and now I...
Hello my name is Jake, im from San Diego and I own a 1997 Explorer 5.0 that has gone through a lot of changes to become what it is now. There's so much custom work on here that I've done...It's gonna take a few posts. When I got the exploder it was bone stock with no speakers or stereo and had a "bad transmission". It was free though, had a v8, 130k and was Awd so it came home with me. I deep cleaned it for about a month because the interior was a bit of a wreck The transmission problem turned out to be a transfercase leak and with the 4r70w having an open passageway to the awd tcase it was becoming low and loosing the ability to shift...or the something like that. All I know is a bw4406 swap and 5 quarts of atf solved the problem...
My pride and joy, the Mounty: Video: It's a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. I acquired this fine vehicle in 2003 with just 32,410 miles on the ticker, and it was in pristine condition, having been driven by an elderly couple, and always serviced regularly at the same dealership it was delivered to from the factory. This thing has gone through a series of different suspension setups, but currently it has: Solo Motorsports 4" extended D35 TTB with D44 outers, and custom radius arms 2.5x12" King coilovers with 2.5x12" secondary King reservoir shocks 4WD conversion with BW4406 manual transfer case 2.5x18" rear King shocks outboard of the frame custom ordered Deaver leaf springs with 12" 2AM Fab shackles Full-width 8.8 rear with stock...
Since 2005 when I bought "Betty", my UK Explorer, I've wanted a sport... well, now that I live in Canada, the chance has presented itself for me to get one... This one.... it's a 99 sport, 4.0 SOHC... it's a total write off for the moment... but when I saw the advert on Kijiji I couldn't say no. It needed some love and I wanted a project to get stuck into, so I did my research and found out how much parts are gonna cost me etc etc. So. I present.. Pickle.. (cos it's green and in a right mess) Si
