I've been around the forum and haven't seen it anywhere. Does anybody know where I can find all of the torque specifications for the explorer 5.0? I need... Lower intake bolts Upper intake bolts Elbow to upper intake bolts Throttle body to elbow bolts Coolant elbow to lower intake bolts Timing Cover bolts Water pump bolts Valve cover bolts Oil Pan bolts Oil pump bolts Oil cooler mount bolt I have a Haynes manual and it has none of these in it that I can find.
I posted this on the explorer side and realized that there aren't any Ranger guys chiming in... so I decided to post it here too for all my fellow Ranger drivers :) So here it is... the most complete HOW TO for supercharging your 4.0L Ranger! If you obtain a Moddbox Installation kit and any Eaton M90 supercharger (89-95 either style inlet... you can opt to buy one with warranty in the kit), just follow the following instructions and you're good to go. No tune required. 100% bolt-on mod. You can get your installation kit here: ModdBox - Engineering your driving experience I've also decided to post the "final result" first. If you like it.. proceed to read the "how to". Here's the Dyno. 215 hp & 237 lbft at the rear wheels...
so i bet one of my buddys the other day that i could get my 98 xlt 4.0 sohc to put out 300 hp without many crazy mods. im kinda doubting myself considering its probably lost some ponies over the years but i thought it be interesting to see if it can be done without a turbo or supercharger. im gunna do some of the basics, intake, exhaust, throttle body, and all the other little things. i already have flowmaster super 44's and a kkm intake but im thinking about swapping them out for a k&n and other mufflers, im wondering what muffler and cats would be best. im also changing my gears to 4:10s but im not sure if that actually adds hp. any other ideas im thinking about putting some jba headers on but ive heard they dont do much for the 4.0s.
I'm abandoning my old thread (My new 347), as the motor has been an epic fail for many reasons. Against any sane reason, I'm trying again. Post #1 is a thread with all parts for my own records. I'll keep adding to this as I have the time and know what parts are being used. New (Used) unmolested factory block from Vroomzoomboom. Thanks Tim! I haven't been able to find anyone that manufactures this spacer for my 2001 Ford Explorer sport 4.0 SOHC. If you know of one then please let me know. If not, i'm planning on building myself. I've found a couple of suppliers for the material. Please let me know if you've found any suppliers that carry 1" thick G11 phenolic. Or, if there's a better grade, then let me know that.
Hey! (Yes I’m aware there has been plenty of posts like this.) I have a few questions I’d like to spit out however. I want to turbo my 4.0 V6 SOHC. It’s a brand new engine. New tranny as well, so it’s almost asking for a boost. I don’t really want to go remote or rear-mounted. has anybody ever fabricated a header for there 4.0s? Or used a crossover? I’m interested to hear how everyone has turbod their x’s and how they did it. Any recommendations for me? Thank you!
Parts and Info for my Turbocharged 4.0 from my thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426937 This list is the basic parts (major items) I used to end up with a turbocharged 4.0 OHV. I hoped this could help consolidate information from the thread and from the research I've done to this point. This setup has resulted in great drivability allowing me to keep up with modern traffic. Boost comes on fast if you want to get on the go pedal but it also allows you to cruise out of boost at around stoich or slightly leaner programmed/tuned appropriately to do so. This set up would allow you to run 7 pounds on a daily driver, to this point in time, safely and reliably and I can pass obd2 emissions testing. Smaller...
Does anybody ever done such a thing? I'm wondering if the stock ECM will handle like 4 o 5 psi of boost without any mods? I live at the Andes mountains, at 6.600 feet of altitude and the atmospheric pressure here is around 9 psi, so I figure if I add 4 or 5 psi of turbo boost the explorer migh perform like if it was at sea level..?? what if I go down to sea level..?? the 4.0 SOHC uses a MAF sensor, so the increase of airflow under boost will make the ECM dump more fuel... or not..?? up to a certain point I'm sure, since definitely the air/fuel mixture is correct at this altitude as well as down at the coastline, in other words, can the ECM be fooled to make it think it's working at sea level..?? thanks.

Well guys been super busy and had parts to do this sitting around for awhile. Fortunately enough my timing cover gasket went from no leak to straight peeing in a 2 mile drive recently. Here is a few notes and parts I used, I'll add part numbers and update original post wen done... -Comp Cams 35‑349‑8 Xtreme Energy Cam -Alex's parts gt40p springs -Alex's parts 6.305 extended pushrods (figured this out after cam was installed and stockers are WAY too short) I already had a few supporting mods along with 1.6 roller rockers and roller timing chain setup on the truck when it was built. Put about 15k hard miles on her in 2 years and she sure needed a little cleaning. Rps20160914_204634 by boominXplorer posted September 14, 2016 at 8:54...
It's been several years since there's been any posts on this subject so I decided to start a new thread to discuss it. There are several ways to significantly increase the power and torque of the SOHC V6: supercharging, turbocharging and stroking. All three are fairly expensive modifications and many members would probably comment why bother when it's possible to upgrade from a V6 Explorer to a V8 Explorer for less money. Well one reason is the V8 was not available in the 2 door Explorer and another reason is I have become comfortable with the SOHC V6 in spite of its potential timing chain death rattle. I am approaching the end of what I hope to be a successful supercharger installation and for various reasons I am not interested in a...
What’s out there these days for stock 5.0 PCM tuning options? I have an old SCT X3 with tunes from Henson Performance but I believe those are as good as useless now since he is no longer doing tuning? I would like the option of being able to do my own tweaking but still use a software that has support and could get professional help with, possibly a “base tune” for a given configuration. Any recommendations or shared experiences would be great. I am possibly looking at a boosted application down the road. I have seen Tweecer mentioned but I don’t know anything about it.
