well, on the post road, minding my own business with 2 of my buddies in my Mountaineer, going no where in particular. anyways, a yellow Acura Integra with a fart can, rims, some crazy ugly looking interior, and most likley an intake pulled up next to me at a red light. the light turns green and i go, minding my own driving about 50 or 55 mph like i normally would and he is next to me the whole way. so, i knew he wanted to race for some reason, i dont know why, but i felt it. anways, ZZ Top comes on the radio outta no where, my friend turns it up, light turns green, i floor it, he floors and we take off. i had the lead the whole way, and he was maybe a halfa car length behind me...we only raced to about 85 or 90 mph....at the next...
I'm planning on installing a Diablo chip on my 5.0L Mountaineer but before doing that, I understand I need to replace my thermostat. Do you guys recommend a 180 degree or a 160 degree thermostat? ... To sum everything up, when using the Diablo chip, I need to use premium gasoline, and replace my thermostat. Anything else I must do so I won't damage my engine or transmission? Thanks.
hey guys, i want to up my power level in my 1991 ohv. its a 4 door 4x4 and i want to be able to smoke my tires with a fair amount of ease. whats mods would you suggest to get to that point? i dont want to change the gears or anything, and i already plan to put on an exhaust and a custom k&n filter. another quick question while im writing this, i notice there are a few lines coming off my airbox, what are they and what is the result of removing them to put on a conical air filter? PS: please include where imight find the products you suggest and please do NOT tell me how illegal smokeshows are. Thanks
Over the past couple weeks, I've installed a K&N FIPK, custom cat-back exhaust with 2.5" piping, and I have to say -- the modifications are quite awesome. I have the Diablo chip which I'll install within the next day or so -- I can't wait to be amazed by it. I've been just driving around, and I now take on those Civics and other so-called vehicles.
Hey guys... well i wana make my X faster.... all i have right now is a K&n filter..... I want flowmasters... one of my questions is... will a KKN intake make a big dif over the K&N filter? and if so what should be done first? KKM or flowmasters? anyone have any other ideas for a 5.0? how well will a chip work for me? i have 3.73 gears.. should i change them? gimmie some ideas!!!
No, nothing bad happened, just a little scare. I was giving a new friend a 'taste' of Splat's performance, and got up on 3 wheels in a turn! I was making a left from a parking lot onto the street. Powerbraked to about 2000, launched, then turned. Felt the driver front tire lift right up. No problem, just shallowed the turn out and landed. A bit scary though! That's only the second or third time I've gotten tippy on the road; now I know the turning/accel limit! BTW, can you tell I'm on a HUGE adrenaline high? Also, Splat officially runs a 6.7-6.8 0-60 and a 15.3-15.4 1/4 mile w/o nitrous.
ok, heres the deal. a friend of a friend knows this guy who has a local salvage yard. they got a totaled 2nd gen. Lightning in the other day with under 30k miles on it. i can get the fuel pump for $30. i remember a while back someone had a lightning pump on a supercharged X, but i cant remember who. is this just a complete bolt-in, or will i need to rig some stuff? obviously i will need an aftermarket adjustable pressure regulator. no concern, it wont go in until after the charger is on. eventually, after all my other mods, i will have the lighting pump and a T-rex inline. i need to jump on it quick, cuz there is a line forming out at the yard as we speak. anyone have some flow rates on the stock lightning pump? thanx.
OK, so I was driving home tonight and there was a guy in a neon going like 50 to a red light, he didn't realize so he then slammed on his breaks. He did managed to stop. Then as the light turns green he starts to go. So I start to go. Little by little we're going, and going, and going, the next thing I know im going 80 and im ahead of him. Then all of a sudden, the little ******* starts to pull ahead of me. I HATE OHV's... lol if I only had like 20 more MPH to play with his ass would have been mine!! This is embarrassing, beaten by a NEON!!!! I think im going to hold the exterior mods and get my X running a little faster!!! lol Any suggestions, other then a blower and NO2??? PS. OK, I've done some searching but haven't been able to find all the exact answers so here goes. What I think I know: There isn't a S/C kit for 4.0 SOHC There is a roots-type S/C kit for the 4.0 OHV There is a centrifugal S/C kit for the 5.0 What I don't know/need to know: What is in a S/C kit? (blower, ducts, pullies/brackets, etc?) Why exactly can't a centrifugal kit from another motor or one pieced together be adapted for a 4.0 SOHC? Is it the brackets/pullies? No under hood space? Is it the piping from the air cleaner -> S/C -> throttle body? Are there vacuum hoses affected/connected? Does the 'puter need to be reprogrammed? Isn't the boost pressure and CFM the important things? I guess these questions...
Welp... I found out tonight how slow my v8 is... i raced another X tonight on DPA (231) for those of you from NY and Long Island u know what that is.. but anyway i raced 2 times with him.. once while rolling.. and i kept up with him.. and it was a dead race... and onec from a light... we were even agin.. but he was pulling away from me a little... It was a v6.. dohc? i think... all i know is that thing reved to the sky... i was in third gear and he was just changing from 1st to second.... after our second race we rolled next to eachother and we were talking... all he has is a K&N and a chip... would that make that much of a dif? i mean come on... i have a v8 =P i know those trucks are only like 10 hp less then my truck... but then...
