Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and am going to start a turbo build soon for my truck. I'm wanting to do this for different reasons. First I have a 4.0 and yes I know someone is gonna say drop a v8...so in advance thanks but no thanks lol Don't want to deal with the swap. I have read jakees thread only on here that had good info but haven't found anything else. But am hoping this will be a go to thread with extensive info specifically for a third gen. This isn't going to happen overnight but do plan to have everything done hopefully in 6 months from the time I get to pick your guys brains and start a parts list besides the turbo kit. I would like to know what other components. Injector size??fuel pump, boost a pump?? Spark plugs...
What kind of performance parts should i buy for a 2002 Explorer XLT V8 4WD? A buddy of mine has a 03 explorer, but its a v6 with a intake and i BARELY pull on him. What kinds of things can i do to get more power? I come from a honda background, so i dont know what similarities/differences these motors have in reguards to response to modification. Thanks for any input!
im not sure if this is quite the correct section but heres my story, Well i was on an undisclosed patch of pavement today and had a lightning pull up beside me at about 55mph, and he sped up and slowed down about 3 times repeatedly....well considering i just pulled 200lbs of subwoofer out of the rear of the ex it feels like it took a huge dumb and i was feeling froggy so as i heard his engine scream the last time (very nice sound i might add) i got behind him and nailed it, i was RIGHT on his bumper all the way to 100 i mean he was NOT pulling me, when i shutoff at 100 he was pulling ahead pretty good when his path was obstructed, so i took the slow path and went right of the obstruction and he went left, as we had more...
4.0 SOHC turbo charger project Guys - I'm done....well, almost (you know how that goes) I've drove the truck around today very safely and all I can say is wow...I love this and I'm very glad I did it. I'll have to say I went thru a lot to get this far and lost a few buddies along the way. :( I'm gonna try like heck to get you guys some videos soon but right now I need to chill cuss my wife is pissed. I've been working on this truck when I should be working on the house, but oh well. blah blah blah. I've got the boost at around 5 LBS and that's where it's gonna stay until I can get the MAF, injectors, and fuel pump in. Oh yeah, I'm running the 73MM C&L housing and stock injectors and pump. Anyways, I'll be changing...
just started this project tuesday, so dont expect anything crazy yet. i picked up an 01 explorer sport with no motor, no trans on sunday. then tuesday night we picked up a pretty bare lm7 to use for mock up. it has headers, and complete intake to pan. but no accessories or wiring. plan for this build is a stock 5.3, with a built 4l80, and engine bay space will dictate if its twin or single turbo. power wise, i'm going to start at 600, have some fun with it, then push harder and harder until i find the limit the engine will take with this setup. the second motor will be put in, and i'll run a little bit less boost. bringing it home threw slicks and skinnies on it for a little inspiration lol :) cheap motor...
Where are the you guys at? Mine is sitting right around 6 secs with my tuning and 89 octane fuel. Link for my YouTube upload. This is my 2 door stock engine, stock intake, stock manifold, Maximizer headers, custom Henson stainless 3" exhaust to the rear (all Tig welded by me with all mandrel bends and v-band connections) with a Kooks muffler and tip. The vehicle is stock otherwise down to the 3:73 gear. I will take to the track when it opens back up to see what she runs. Let's wake this Need For Speed forum back up!!!! Post 'em up!
Ok this is my story. I ordered my Diablo dlta dual program chip with some other stuff about 3 1/2 months ago through a person (to remain un-named). I since then have recieved everything except the injectors and the chip. And the only reason i didnt get the injectors is because i was under the impression that i could just wait a few more days and have them both be shipped togetehr once the guy got the chip back from the programmer. Well that has been well over a month now since even that. He has neither seen nor sent me my chip. All i need to install my supercharger is my stinking chip for my timing and A/F's. If i would have known that it would have taken this long i would have ordered through Apten or someone else my chip. It...
Im new to the forum, wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice. Goal is to cam it, head milling, porting and polishing, and a single 2.5inch exhaust with a good 87 octane tune. Motor has 153k on it. All stock car. Parts list so far: Sealed Power ZH2244 roller lifters, $40 a piece Comp 49-422-8 camshaft, $300 As you can tell I need some advice on rods, valve springs, rocker arms, and gaskets, or anything else thanks
Go go gadget flame suit :D Has anyone ever done a Chevrolet LS series motor swap in their 2nd gen explorer, or any gen explorer for that matter? I know it is a popular swap for fox body cars. Links or pics would be appreciated. The google didn't yield much. I saw a thread with an 01 sport, but the project didn't appear to get anywhere. Thanks! (Edit) - This turns into a build thread... Keep reading.
I’ve started my turbo build. Here is what I have done, and where I am now. The truck is still up on jacks, and in pieces. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t have huge power goals, more so I just want to have the novelty of having a turbo on my truck right now, with all factory options still functioning (a/c, cruise, 4x4 etc). I use my truck as a daily driver, so I'm doing as much prep work as possible. I used JAW wideband, and mounted it in my rear view mirror . I’ve since been driving it watching it and becoming familiar with its behaviour in different driving conditions. Normally aspirated, when flooring it under load, it tends to drop to 13.4 Idle is at 15.75-16.5 and jumping to wayyy leaner at times. I...
