Solid Axle Swap Registry

If you have completed a solid axle swap on your Explorer and would like to share the results with others this is the place to do it:D This isn't the place to talk about a work in progress, rather a place for the FINAL results, specs, instructions etc

Took 4 months but 1/2 that time was waiting for more $ to come in to finish up. Again with mods, I had to go the unbeaten path to see what works and what doesn't. Fortunately for me, this worked out well with no kinks I can think of. - Low Pinion Dana 44 from 2001 Dodge Ram shortened to use Wagoneer left & right inner shafts with stock Ram outer shafts. The good - Stock Ram Dual piston calipers 12" rotors - Chrome moly inner axle shafts - Low pinion chunk with great clearance to frame - Sealed hubs, 4x4 on demand, no more regreasing bearings, nut torquing etc. - Custom Radius arm design allowing me to unbolt passenger upper arm for 3 link radius arm or wristed arm setup for more articulation. The Bad - Sealed hubs, no more manual...
Ok it's finally looking like something. This thing should be complete by the end of next week, so I am posting this in the registry instead of the projects section, I hope that's OK with everyone. Front:Full width Dana 44 from a 78 Bronc with 4.88s and a Lock Rite Wild horses coils, custom drag link and radius arms. Bronco buckets and stock track bar. Rear: Full width Ford 9 inch, with 4.88s and a EZ Locker, stock springs and 4 inch blocks. No cutting down here. There are pizza cutters on her right now, but I'm picking up the 35' Muds tomorrow. (dead links) Thanks for looking!!!!
Here is the link to my car domain site. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2209152 It has been a long three year process reasearching, building, and collecting. I still have a few things to decide on like shocks and my explorer axle swap on the back. I am just ready to take er out and drive it. I will post more pics of the suspension and crossmember and hopefully some action shots later. I welcome all questions and comments. This site is awesome and it would have been alot harder to accomplish without it.
91 Explorer Solid Axle Swap Hello everyone. This is a White 91 Explorer. Solid axle came out of an 89 jeep wrangler. Front leafs are new but from a jeep. The rear lift was made by using high arched "soft ride" leafs, and flipping over the axle. There are not any blocks! The front has 12 inch Fox shocks and resevoirs (though resevoirs are not in pictures, i am getting them installed this week. Iwill get new pictures as soon as that is done.) The Truck Has 37" Super Swampers SSR's on it right now but i will be putting 38" Tires on it when these wear out. I still have to measure it next to another but i believe the total suspension lift is about 15 inches plus the tire difference. The frame is 29" off the ground...
Since the AZ wheeling season is finally upon us, I decided it was time to put my new truck in the shop for a little tweaking to better handle the trails around here. A little about what I started with: Specs: 5 speed, manual tcase, 5.13's, discs and no slip in rear, 37 MTR's(street) and 36 TSL's(rocks). The goal for this project was to build something that was able to drive to the hardest trails in AZ, run them successfully, and then drive home. It must also be able to be driven everyday as this is my main source of transportation. All decisions were made with a bias towards trail performance, instead of street comfort. Build Specs: Dana 44 - Left over from my last project. - Warn shafts, CTM's, Detroit, 5.13's...
Hey all, don't know why I took so long to officially register it, maybe because It will never really be done, but anyway has been officially SAS'd for a while so here it is. I have a nasty squeal in the front brakes. I got new rotors and wheel studs. The rotor isn't completely tight against the hub. I've tried to get the studs as tight as possible. I'm just afraid that I'll snap a stud off. Guess I'll keep tightening them up. BUT here's what I did tonight. Oh who ever said about creaming your jeans in double low.....:exporange Need to build the xmember before I can flex the drivers side down. This is whats left in the shocks. About 2" droop and 3" compression left on the front. About 2" droop and 1" compression left on the rear.
Hey guys, I just pretty much finished the major fabrication of my SAS on my 92 Sploder, still need tires cuz I dont think 32s will look too good. It is a Dana 30 (dont laugh), and Im not sure how much lift it is but I need a new front driveline. It barely bolts up to the axle fully extended. My question is what did you guys do for your drivelines?...did you get it custom made or what? I have some more pics but here is a couple if my truck , if it helps...thanks.
EEE's Solid Axle Swap #1 Shortly after returning from Moab, Utah in the Summer of 2001, I decided that I was going to bite the bullet and go with a solid axle swap, or live axle conversion. The 1991-1994 Ford Explorers were equipped with Dana 35 TTB, or Twin Traction Beam, suspensions, that, in my opinion, leave much to be desired. The pivot points in the middle of the TTB are flex-killers; and if you have any plans of doing any serious rockcrawling, the TTB has to go. The Dana 35 is also equipped with weak aluminum bearing caps. With that said, the solid axle swap provides other benefits besides just flex and articulation. It also provides superior strength, more stability, and tends to stay in alignment much more so than any...
