My sister retired her bronco II, cracked head and bottom end knock, and while im sitting here trying to figure out the cheapest way to get 3.73s for my explorer i walk down and look at the tag on the bronco's driver door and find code 44 for axle, 3.73 gear ratio. Now i know most bronco II's were dana 28, right? how do i find out if this vehicle is a dana 35? also, the rear diff is a 10 bolt, making it a 8.8"? sorry for all the newbie questions, im just now getting into differentials and transfer cases.

1990 MIGHT have a 28 spline 8.8, its not a 31 spline

1990 MIGHT have a HYBRID dana 28/35 TTB axle, but not a true D35 TTB

They are not the same as your Explorer

B2s never got any 8.8s or hybrid D28/35s. Hybrid didn't even start till 93 in 2.3 and 3.0 rangers. B2s built after 11/89 will have a D35 front, the D35 has 10 bolts, the D28 has 12. ALL B2s have 7.5 rears.

I have seen in person 2ea 90 BII's that had 8.8 rears as well as the D35 TTB from the factory

I was under the impression the D35 up front was the "hybrid" but never confirmed

And that is why not a single person on B2.org or TRS have ever seen one? Not calling you flat out wrong, but it's very highly unlikely.

No such thing as a "hybrid" D28/35 diff before '93.

The 4.0 was never put in a BII either (not in production units anyway).

All BII rears are 7.5s
