'13 Explorer Sport
Been lurking on the forums for a while, while making my decision.

I ordered my new 2013 Explorer Sport yesterday (6.29). I am happy to be sizing down from my Expedition.

This will be my 3rd Explorer that I have purchased new from the Dealer and my 8th Ford vehicle that includes 3 Mustangs, 3 Explorers, 1 Expedition, and an Escort (first ride).

I am trading in my 2006 King Ranch Expedition. The dealer gave me a great price for it.

Now the waiting begins, the dealer informed my that builds do not start until early September. OUCH.... 90+ days.

Went with White Platinum Tri-Coat with Charcoal/Sienna interior, 402a Package, Dual Moonroof, Tow Package, and second row buckets.

Timeline:
6/28 Placed Order
6/29 DORA Number received.
... Whole lot of waiting...

July has come and gone
August has come and gone
September has come and gone

9/30 VIN received
10/18 Scheduled build date
10/12 Window Sticker became available
10/26 Picked up the Sport

Congratulations! We look forward to hearing from you as your build progresses and plenty of pics when she's delivered :)

Congratulations! From what I see, even build $money, going to a Sport you gain the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 and suspension upgrade, but you lose the following that the same priced Limite d has...

Parallel Park Assist & Guidelines while in Reverse
Auto High Beam Headlights
Lane Keeping Assist
2nd Row Console
Heated Steering Wheel
Powerfold Third Row
Rain-sensing Wipers
HID Headlights
Polished 20 inch wheels
Chrome trim all over

Not sure if I missed anything, but I am not willing to give up the heated stuff in New England, along with the Powerfold Stuff and the electronic technology.

Just me....

2nd Row Console
Heated Mirrors
Heated Steering Wheel
Polished 20 inch wheels
Chrome trim all over

Second row console was a bummer, I chose the split bench because of this, but the increased power and suspension definitely outweighed second row options since we rarely have people in the back.

According to the "Standard Features" tab on the sport
"Gloss Black mirrors, heated, with security approach lamps and turn signal indicators"

So heated mirrors are there... I live in Cali so heated steering wheel is useless

It comes with 20" sport rims w/ blackout treatment, why would you order it with polished wheels? Polished is a luxury thing, not a sport thing.

Same argument.. chrome all over is a luxury thing, sport styling is black (blacked out lights, grill, roof racks, and emblems in this case)

As far as everything else, I would have preferred the manual third row, and I wouldn't have gotten any of the other stuff if I had ordered a limited, so I'm ecstatic about the sport options!

ALSO!!!!

Congratz disaacks!!

I ordered 6/11 (ingot silver / charcoal / 402a)
A DORA was assigned, but I don't know on which date
Also waiting till early sept for build (ugh)

Exactly, 13sport. If you like the sport look, the sport is the way to go. I am at the point I want the luxury and features for my family, so it is the loaded Limited for me.

We absolutely LOVE our Explorer Limited and I am sure you folks will LOVE your Explorer Sports. I was simply pointing out the differences for those that wanted to know. I will edit the heated mirrors.

I was mainly correcting you on the heated mirrors :) Just thought I'd throw in my thoughts about the other things. I almost ordered a Limited based on the unknown sport timeline, and I think I would have been happy, but I'm a performance junky, and just hearing the word "turbo" makes me want it more :)

One thing I am torn on is which set of tires to order? The Summer only or the All Season. It appears that the summer tires might have a bit more meat on them but could potentially be bad in an Ohio winter. Plus they say availability is later this year.

I was not to concerned about the stuff I was losing. I want the walkway between the seats for the kids to get through. The only thing that I wish they would have included was the powerfold 3rd row seat.

It is a bit odd that Ford would not include the HID headlamps.

Add me to the list of those waiting. Ordered a Tuxedo Black/Charcoal Black 402A w/ Dual Moonroof and Trailer Tow on 06/26. It is still noted that production is scheduled to begin on 09/04 after the Labor Day Holiday weekend.

Powerfold Second Row buckets (Cory please verify)

Second Row Buckets on the Sport are PowerFold.

It would be advisable to stick with the All-Season tires unless you plan on having a second set for winter. The Summer Only tires are indeed just that. They are not intended to be used in temperatures below 40°F, wet or dry, let alone snow and ice.

I went with the All-Season tires yet still plan on getting a set of Interceptor wheels and some sort of a winter tire or All-Terrain tire for winter.

I think the odd feature deletions are pointing to a new Lincoln Aviator coming in the future. The Edge Sport, Edge Limited, and the Lincoln MKX have the same type feature strangeness. Things oddly missing from the Sport, but available on the Limited and/or MKX. I think it is done so as not to have feature overlap between brands and models to give each model a little space in the car market to call its own.

I agree VinceL, the MKX is really needing a refresh, my brother was looking at one and almost bought it until he rode in my EX for a weekend. The keyless entry pad on the Lincoln looks like an aftermarket add on. I'm expecting the MKX to get restyled along with updated tech and the Ecoboost soon.

I went to my local FORD dealership hoping to find a SPORT to test drive but they didn't have any on the lot yet. I did test drive a LIMITED though but wasn't really what I was after. I really can't wait to test drive the SPORT as this is what I'm really after. I asked them to bring one in so I could see it in person and also take it for a test drive. Has anyone been given a price for the SPORT models yet? Ford has their Employee pricing on right now so I am very curious to know what I might be looking at for a SPORT. Thanks!!

The SPORTS haven't been built yet (looks like the builds begin 9/4 according to Cory). You can build and price one at Ford's website though (www.ford.com/explorer). They are roughly priced the same as the limited, the Sport has fewer luxury options than the limited, but more performance options, so you trade a little.

Mine as built has an MSRP of 45,675

Any word on when this is coming to Canada?

Ford.ca doesn't show it under their "Build and Price" yet.

Yes, I'm in Vancouver Canada so I would like to know when it's supposed to be coming to Canada as well! Anyone ???

I just went to Ford.ca selected SUV -> Explorer... clicked Build and Price and put in a canada zip code (m4c1p3) ... on the second page of models is the sport , I could select it, and price it out w/ no problem.

You are correct. Last time I checked it wasn't available at all.

Interesting.

DanYokim77,

It looks like 13Sport is all over this! :) He’s correct that the Sports haven’t been built yet.

13Sport,

That’s correct, but this date is still subject to change. Thanks for lending a hand!

KanewtZ & DanYokim77,

I see 13Sport got to the bottom of that one too.

I'm most interested in the RIMS....I'd love to get my hand on those.
