Mine hasn't leaked since it was repaired, although it's only rained a few times since. They resealed both seams, had the car for 4 days.

...Hard rain again last night and same problem. Going to my dealer here in Atlanta tomorrow....fingers crossed!...
I wanted to check on your leak, dahoeller; did the dealer take care of it?

...Here is a quick video of the leak in yesterdays afternoon storm.
I recommend showing this video to your service department, fordmanck. I can help by forwarding the information to the Customer Service Manager for your area. For me to do this, please send a PM with your contact info, VIN, approximate mileage, and dealer details.

...That is exactly how my leak looks like. Going into dealer this morning for the 3rd time to get fixed...
I’m glad you’re taking it to the dealer, Ott23. I have your details from previous messages, so please don’t hesitate to send me a PM with your current mileage and I’ll arrange a follow-up call.

...Ask Cory, Ford representative on this forum, to escalate your issue to get it resolved.
I really appreciate the recommendation, new to ford!

harlenm,

It’s good you’re staying dry; thanks for the update. :)

Cory

Thanks Cory,

I sent you a PM last week with all the info you were looking for. I had actually called and spoke to a regional service rep and they are now in charge of my case. They found and fixed the leak Monday and are working on a few other issues I've been having right now. They're doing an "ozone" treatment on the interior to kill any mold and/or bacteria. I'm hoping that this is the last I have to deal with it. I really do like this vehicle and don't want to start over again.

I'm a die hard Ford guy through and through though and wouldn't own anything else. I have a '34 Ford 3 Window Coupe in my garage and I recently sold my 750 HP '01 Mustang GT. ;)

My 2013 Has a Roof Leak

New vehicle parked in the garage until dealer has leak specialist available to determine exact location and repair it. The thrill is gone. Driving my daughters 2009 4 cyl. Fusion. Not happy.

wow ... man, day by day my fear to buy a 2013 Limited is growing, yet I love the looks of this rig. Everyday I read the "positive" sticky thread to justify. Why Ford has loads of quality issues? I kinda hoped 2013 are pretty much closer to being perfect since it is the 3rd year for the new gen.

I don't know if this qualifies as a "quality issue". Let's use rough estimate figures here.. .If Ford sells 100,000 explorers a year and there have been 3 model years (2011,12,13).. let's say they have sold 250,000 explorers to date.

If 30 people from this board complain about a roof leak problem, that's roughly .01% (1/100th of 1 percent) that are experiencing the problem. Let's say that 10x that number are experiencing that problem and haven't complained on this board... that's .1% (1/10th of 1 percent)... that still seems like a fairly insignificant number of vehicles experiencing an issue.

If you were talking about My Ford Touch, I'd agree, that's a definite quality issue, even the A-Pillars, or roof noise issue, but leaky roof is not a common problem that a lot of explorer drivers have been experiencing. I'm pretty sure you can be confident in purchasing an explorer, with the exception of the My Ford Touch system. However the issues with that system are software based, and SHOULD be worked out over time (though it's been 3 model years and we still have issues, albeit far less than the original software exhibited)

The problem with message boards, is that most people on them found the board by searching for a problem they were having. So you will see a high percentage of users experiencing the problem, but a message board is not indicative of real world figures in relation to the issue. (that's not to say that there aren't real world problems with the explorer).

^-- i agree and thank you for doing the math :) kinda make sense too. I think probably other brands have issues with closer to that percentage (I'm creeping Honda and Toyota forums as part of my vehicle research). Honestly my fear was not the leaky roof (I saw one other complaint about it a while ago maybe for '11) - it is the sulphur fumes issue and steering issue (it is true '11 & '12 people are the affected, but maybe for '13 it is just a matter of time?) also someone people were complaining about transmission whining too.

Either way, it is a sexy and not a boring looking car (compared to Highlander & Pilot). Regardless of the issues (which I think can be corrected under warranty if I keep my eye out for them), I'm insanely leaning towards the Ex :D

I have a 2011 and the only TSB I've had done is the one for the 'random windshield wipe'. I also had a front right sensor replaced. No leaks, odours and no transmission whine. Previous to the EX, I had 3 Highlanders. The last one, an '09 Ltd, still had 2 1/2 years left on the lease when I transferred the lease and got the EXplorer. No regrets what so ever. :)

Velanzie,
I am happy to report that other then a small defect in my front passenger seat (which was repaired immediately by the dealership), I have had zero issues with my 2013 Limited. No issues with MFT, etc. This forum is great because it does expose you to other peoples stories and opinions but like 13Sports said, I think the percentage is very...very small.

My Explorer was purchased A-Z plan as the daughter a Ford retiree. My loyalty to Ford goes way back. Made the mistake of taking it out on a sunny day which turned into a brief shower. Apparently the water trains down the rails and goes right into the rt rear cargo area via the third row seatbelt and also into the storage hole on the passenger side. Had to drive home like a maniac to get into the garage. Had to remove my new weathertek mat because even the carpet was wet. This is ,imo, and that of my Dad, not a design flaw but poor quality control on the line. Shouldn't happen, but does occasionally. Someone did not seal the racks correctly in all probabilty. Dealer has an outside leak person not available for another week. I checked this forum before buying because we lemon lawed a 2003 F250 6l Lariet diesel. Also a $40,000 vehicle. Didn't want to buy anything with known issues. So, back it will go to be made right. Other than that, the vehicle is great, other manufacturers run into the same issues...Not happy that this occured, but it will be fixed. I have no odors, no FMT issues, would have been perfect except for the leak.

Transmission whine? Okay, that makes me feel a bit better, I was beginning to think I was hearing things. Our transmission has a strange hollow whine sound when it is cold. I'll add that to the list for the next oil change, which will happen sooner rather than later. We used 60% of the oil life on our road trip alone (I changed the oil right before the trip).

Other than a few niggling things here and there, our Ex has been a great car.

Welcome to the boards, sunshineford. I want to see your leak fixed once and for all. I can help by escalating this up to your regional Customer Service Manager. For me to do this, please send a PM with your credentials (VIN, contact info, approximate mileage, and dealer name/state).

13Sport, velanzia, RJT, Peter, & ScottsEXLTD,

I like seeing everyone posting their feedback; thanks, guys.

VinceL,

I already have your information from previous messages, so drop a line via PM with your current mileage for me to lend a hand.

Glad to report my Explorer is back on the road with no further leak! The dealer's outside leak repair guy opened the tailgate to begin the search and in less than a minute discovered the black plug on the uppper right rear was missing. It was not the roof rack or a window leaking. He replaced it and I was on my way. He said the diameter of the hole allows a lot of water to enter and we fortunately discovered it quickly. A big thank you to the "leak specialist" and Kelley Ford in Melbourne, Fl. And thank you to the Ford rep on the board here for offering his assistance. :)

2013 Explorer

We've had our 2013 Ex since April. While we don't drive it every single day, it has been on some trips. I'm a retired car dealer service manager (General Motors) and know a little bit about cars. Long story short, I have yet to find a single thing wrong with this 2013 Explorer.

rear door leak

We have the same issue. My wife told me about this and I couldn't figure it out or track it down, its now happened to me twice so I'll be bringing back our 2011 XLT. it's disappointing, but I'm hoping they've seen this before and have the repair down pat already. Our leak is passenger side front seat belt, 2nd row reading light, and third row seatbelt.
