2003 Explorer xlt auto
Recently purchased a 2003 xlt explorer which had a oil leak from the sump.
Drained oil and removed the sump. In the bottom of the sump I found a bronze bush split in two roughly 3/4” dia with 5/8 internal. Also found 1/2 of what appeared to be a washer and two pieces of plastic which I presumed came off the tensioner.
Car drove excellent no noise on start up or when hot car has done 200 kilometres and appeared to be in a well looked after state. Any ideas as to where they came from?
As stated car drives fine could it be from a lazy mechanic that did a repair and didn’t clean the sump?

My guess is that they are bits from a broken timing chain guide and they replaced the guides, but left the scraps in the motor.

Thanks for your reply the motor runs to smooth for it to have a problem

It's not a problem as long as the scraps went to the bottom and stayed there. Only if they circulated through the oiling system would there be a problem.
