Well i have been fixing some things lately and it is time for new paint. Its something we are going to do at the house. My dad used to paint for a while and is a all around mech. Its time. Here is the deal. It has been primer for a year. I sanded it down a few weeks ago for new primer and i have decided to paint the explorer with some color this time. Not gonna spend a lot of money on it. No clear coat or anything. Im not fixing the dents because the min i do and get it all painted i will lay it over on a tree again and have a worse looking spot. From the trim on the doors down are staying black. They will be getting bed liner here in a few weeks. Im also going to do two black stripes down the center of the hood and roof section to...
roccov12345's 98 Mounty Restoration Thread. Back From the Dead & Finished Well, after some thought and planning, I've decided to go ahead and start the restoration project of my mountaineer. I've been lurking through the explorerforum threads for quite some time. I guess I would call myself an amateur paint/body guy but we'll see how it works out. I'd like to say thanks to "MONMIX" for some influential chime ins and threads that I've studied and added to my book of notes. If you guys notice anything that I should change or attempt differently, just let me know. Constructive Criticism in my book is help, whether it's positive or negative. I have about 30 hours in her so far and I'm sure plenty more to go. Well, on with the...
Door latch removal and replacement. I encountered this common problem on my 98 explorer and could not find a good how-to online. The symptoms I was experiencing were problems unlocking the door. To unlock the door I had to work the interior door handle while hitting the power button to get the door open. The power actuator on it's own would not unlock the door. The small spring in the latch assembly had broken, I re-bent it once but it broke a 2nd time so I decided to replace the latch assembly. My interior handle also broke leaving me unable to open the door. This removal and replacement can be done by the knowledgeable enthusiast, but if you have large hands with fat fingers you may struggle. The following procedure worked on my...
Hello fellow explorer enthusiasts! Got some questions asked while doing my driver`s side rocker panel repair so I decided to write-up the other side. Hope I can help anyone out.. FIRST: -Disconnect your battery, do not do any welding with your battery connected. Yes you might get away with it, but some components in your electrical system can be damaged by welding voltages. (plus you avoid any battery drain) Some people also disconnect their ECU and Alternator, I have never done this myself and have done quite a bit of welding on the Ex (You make the call) -Take your doors off, they need to be well out of the way. -Remove the trim from the lower areas of your door openings and pull the door seals out of the way -Get some poly...
I am waxing my car this weekend... It has NEVER been waxed to my knoowledge... I would like you guys to suggest me some products that I can get at a local store around the area that isn't too terribly expensive. I have a few scratches here and there but not too many. Clear coat is not too great. My truck is white and pewter. Thanks in advance... By the way, yes I used the search function and I still wanted to do this topic. :p
The definition of true love.....cleaning inside your hubcaps, inside your doorjambs, under the kick panels, taking a Q-tip to the air vents and climbing underneath to hose down your spare with tire wet. Am I the only one nuts enough to clean places like these? How about you? What have you cleaned that usually gets overlooked? :D
Howdy everybody. It's been a while since I've posted here but thought I'd stop by to show what I've been doing. Last year I rear ended a chevy and pretty much totaled my truck. here's the thread with pictures Now, I love this ford. And hence, was not nearly ready to part with it... So, the transformation begins. Fist thing was to get rid of all that pesky body stuffs in front of the fire wall. I have pictures of this on a different hard drive and will post them if anyone is interested. Luckily the frame was still straight and I only fragged the ac condenser and radiator. In my mind, it just meant I get to have on-board air and slap on a bigger radiator. After that I needed to reevaluate the intake and battery...

Here's my '97 Explorer 2wd 5-spd when I bought it This the way she looked after the first round of mods And now is under construction (heavily influinced by the likes of Gearge Barris, Ed Roth, Bill Hines etc.) with some old skool body mods. With the help of a '94 Explorer Sport as a parts truck I am building 'The One Ford Never Built' So here we go
Here we go. I am going to do a complete body detail of my 98 Explorer. First will be a wash, then clay bar. The wash again, then use some compound to remove some scratches. Then will use a swirl remover. Then a glaze to bring out the shine. Then will use some Klasse All In 1 glaze to give it a final seal. After all of that then I will wax. I will list the products that I use, exactly as I use them. Notice the new hood scoop, EE Airdam, billet grille and bumper billet. New CobraR mag wheels and Pirelli tires. First set of pictures is after I washed her. Now getting ready to use a clay bar. The clay bar I am using is by Meguiar's. BEFORE Clay Bar
Ok, I've had a thread on here forever about when my truck was backed into/side swiped. Long story short it was totaled, insurance didn't cover, I was 17 (only 18 now) and hadn't done any bodywork at all. I put a fender on it; followed by a door. I then decided to repair my rusted doglegs, at which point I realized how replacing the door was a total waste. And one thing led to another, and I got the idea to paint the whole truck. This weekend weather providing I'll remove all doors and rear hatch to paint all the jambs. The next weekend or so after that I'll be spraying the whole truck. So far I've painted the plastic runningboards and it's turned out great. It was my first time holding a spray gun, let alone using it. I bought a paint...
