This 99 Explorer Sport is our 3rd one (as the title says). First one was a jewel green 94, second one was a bright amber (autumn orange) 99 we purchased new, & the current one (A 99) is vermillion red. When we got it I did a full service on it, new tires, grille guard, bug shield, vent visors, new front shocks & new rear coil assist shocks & new warrior rear shackles. I patched a small rust hole in the l/s quarter panel by the top of the wheel flare & patched both outer & inner rocker panels with new metal panels. Currently it has only 115K on the clock, when we purchased it in July of 2015 as a DD for my wife it only had 82K on it. I removed the factory side steps as they were rusted beyond repair & found a pair of steps on E Bay for a...
Hi all. I figured I'd make a registry for my new ride! It was 180 miles away and managed to take 9 hours for the entire trip, including several KFC stops along the way. I picked up a plush meerkat to put on the dash at a service station, and since the car is kind of meerkat coloured the name stuck. I'll be needing these... Just getting onto the M25 going around London... STILL on the M25, but now it's gone dark. This is crossing the Thames... My friend's car was doing consistently good MPG throughout the journey... Pics of the car itself will come tomorrow... when it's less dark outside.
Hey y'all! Thought I ought to get a thread going for my ride, the 97Sandbox. The nickname comes from the double mid prairie tan color scheme -- basic as can be, but hey, it hides dirt like none other. My dad bought the Explorer in 2006 from the original owner and I took ownership of the truck in 2017 (although I've been driving it since 2010). It came into our family while we were all living in Missouri, but I eventually took the '97 with me to Kansas and later to Wisconsin where it resides now. I'll kick things off with a brief history of my infatuation with Explorers, then I'll run through what I've done so far, and I plan to keep posting as I continue to modify the vehicle. Stock specs: 4.0 SOHC, 5R55E, RWD with the 3L73 rear end
Pack up all those phantoms, Shoulder that invisible load... - Rush, "Ghost Rider" (Vapor Trails, 2002) This is my 2003 Limited 4x4 4.6L. It's the third of four Fords I've owned, behind my 1994 Ranger, which I still have, and my old 1998 Expedition, which I should have run off a cliff. Stock, it came with everything but AdvanceTrac, rear DVD, reverse sensors, and tire pressure monitoring. I've had it for over twelve years but I think I have finally done enough to it to warrant a Registry thread. Current Engine - stock 4.6L block and crank, Trick Flow 75mm throttle body, Trick Flow Street Burner intake manifold, Modular Motorsports Racing stage 2 ported/polished heads, Comp XE262H cams, stock valves w/Manley springs, JBA headers, MMR...

I got this explorer back in 2004 when I was 15 from my mom. It had a blown transmission that I had to get replaced. Since then I have modified it. The only bolts I haven't turned would be on the original motor. This picture was taken when I spend most of my day washing and waxing it with McGuire's 3 step wax system.... boy did it shine! Stock sized BF Goodrich All Terrains & a brush guard from a 1998 - 2000 Ford Ranger 3" body lift and a home built bumper New BF Goodrich 33"x10.5-r15's Put bigger tires on it (35" Super Swampers LTB's) A broken front axle shaft resulted in a solid axle swap. Click here for the Solid Axle Swap build thread! Changed my grill to a ranger one! 37" tires, rock sliders, and a winch...
1998 Explorer 4.0 SOHC Bought it with a melted alternator/wiring harness from a junkyard for $1,000 Fixed it, drove it for two weeks, then I boosted it. Started with an M90 supercharger kit from www.Bansheesuperchargerkit.com Upgraded to an M112 Lightning supercharger that was a prototype kit. Next was the M122 off a 2012 GT500 I have reached 20 lbs of boost (with ARP head studs) and a 12.83 in a quarter mile. Pictures 1. How it looked when I brought it home. 2.The M90 supercharger installed 3.The GT500 supercharger installed 4.How it looks now 5.Wheelie
Figured I should start a thread since this truck is starting to snowball. I bought this rolled Explorer for $400 a few months ago. This poor family owned & maintained this truck for over 20 years, before it was rolled in the hands of an 18 year old. The owner was dumbfounded when I cut out the windshield at his house & drove it home (at night) with a full face helmet! Specs: 93 XLT Auto 4x4 170,x.. on chassis Receipt from a Ford Dealership showing 60K on the new motor Receipt for a rebuilt trans showing 18K New - MAF, brake booster/master, cats & muffler The plan was to just keep it in the yard since my DD is showing it’s age at 225k. This truck runs better than any 1st gen I’ve owned (15 or so). I literally had zero plans for it...
Seeing as I've owned this car for two weeks now I guess I should make a registry for it. Went to Pollard Friendly Ford in Lubbock, TX with the intentions of putting a down payment on a 2007 Ex V6 4X4. I was literally heading into the office to sign on it when I spotted this green gem sitting to the side. It had just been traded not more then twenty minutes ago for a '12 Edge. Took it for a test drive (the sales lady trying to point out how much better the 4th Gen was :D) and I was sold on it. Now she sits at my house. Specs as purchased: 2001 Ford Explorer XLT- Second Owner 5.0L V8- Stock... For the moment 4R70W with full time All Wheel Drive 3.73 Open... Now 3.55 Open Only thing it didn't seem to have is the backup sensors, sunroof...
This is all @Rick fault. I bought another Explorer today, but before you all jump to conclusions and calling me Zukman ( :p ), here me out... Why did I buy Another Explorer? Well I as some you may know, I ordered a 2019 Ranger, but it will not be here for a few months and I need to dump my Focus ST, but I still need a DD in between. So what do I do? Buy a cheap reliable truck that I know well. Now the fun part, look at what I found.:D 1997 Ford Explorer XL 2wd 4.0 OHV 5-Speed Manual (yes a 4dr Manual) 3.27 gears A/C 165k No really that's it. It super bare bones, Manual Everything! Manual Windows, Manual Mirrors, Manual Door Locks. Vinyl Seats. Runs really smooth:thumbsup: It's in crazy good condition, super clean in and out...
I've only been an "elite" for like a day, been a member for a couple months, but I've been here reading for about half a year. I'm from northern Florida and this is my explorer. Still working on a name for her and have limitless plans for her! She's almost running like new again and I'm getting her offroad ready ever so slowly, within about a week I'll be doing a torsion bar lift and shackles. I really like this community and am thankful for how helpful everyone is and can't wait to see more of everyone else's explorers
Stripe Bandit #13 This Explorer started out life as a 93 Limited from Oklahoma. He was purchased by Russell ( @NICE59FORDF100 ) through a very arduous process with the owner and brought to Texas. Once there, as the A4LD was beyond redemption, he and Kris decided to do a full manual drivetrain conversion, modify the front fenders, and throw on a set of BFG 31's. Stripe was then sold to a then "friend" who later had Kris put a 2" Superlift on, added the Duff shocks, and the Hella lights. It was during this period of ownership that I believe he had his engine hydrolocked, bending the crank. Unfortunately, Stripe was later stolen and wound up once again in Oklahoma, abandoned by both the thief and the owner in an impound lot, racking up...
