Acquired a run down explorer for 900 dollars. Seemed like a good deal as I wanted to get a "project" car/truck to fix up with my eldest son. Black with grey leather interior. Stock on everything. A littany of small issues rather than a few big issues. Main issue was radiator leaked and mixed with trans fluid. So far: 1. New oe radiator. 2. tensioner arm and pulley. 3. idler pulley. 4. new high amp alternator.(stock largest) 5. 12 blade fan 6. fan clutch 7. rear diff cover. and fluid. 8. trans pan with drain plug. 9. cheap "jinbo" set of shocks all around... actually a Monroe clone out of China. quality seems good so far. 10. shackle lift rear. 11. torsion twist x3 front. 12. sway bar links front. 13. ceramic pads all around 14. brake...
My names Billy and I figured I would share my explorer and tell a little about it. Pops bought this brand new back in 92. After countless miles all over the US in the backseat of this car, it was given to me when I got my license and survived me through high school and college. Got my first job, and “that old explorer” had to go, so pops took it back. He drove it on and off over the years, and it started to show its age and he got tired of spending money for it to sit most of the time. He had toyed with the idea of getting rid of it but just couldn’t bring himself to do it so he kept it. Well this last winter, the starter went out on it (original one I might add,) and it was just reason he needed to let it go. Well, like I said...
My wife & I last weekend purchased a 1999 Explorer Sport which I wanted to get for a "spare" backup vehicle in case my 2000 Ranger or her 2008 Escape needed work that would lay it up for more then a weekend. The dealer was asking 1595 for it & we offered 1300 & we got it. It has only 81K miles, it has the 4.0 SOHC, auto, PW, PL, PM, Power Sunroof, & is bright red w/gray leather interior.Well now my wife has claimed it as here DD & make her 2008 Escape the spare vehicle since we had purchased a 1999 Explorer Sport new back in 99 when I was working at a ford dealer & we ran it up to 275K miles before selling it a couple years ago. (mistake on my part).
Name: Tyler Truck: 1993 Eddie Bauer Explorer welp...this is my baby. got her in the fall of 2007 as a gift from an elderly woman at my church. she bought it right off the showroom floor when it was brand new, and she kept it in excellent condition. the only real driving she did was to church, grocery store, and to the flower shop (which she put a tarp in the back so no dirt would get in the carpet). when i got her she had a whopping 54k on the odometer! and of course the paint was in scratch less. just after a fresh coat of black on the grill and the wipers. aint she beautiful? now comes lift time! what its got: Suspension/Brakes: Rough Country 4 inch lift 1.5 inch coil seats SOA Warn Manual hubs Sway bar disconnects new...
This is my Explorer, I plan to use this thread to post pictures and show my restorations, personalizations, improvements and so on. I'll list my specs so there is no confusion. 1995 Ford Explorer XLT, 4x4, 4.0 OHV v6, 310,000 estimated miles Bought new in November of 95', "the Explorer" has been in my family for over two decades. The Explorer has towed a 5,000 lb travel trailer, but currently it's used as a commuter and a tow vehicle for a utility trailer. I will be updating this thread with pictures and fixes I find. Problems(Updated December 2018): Fails Emission Test for hydrocarbons, Gauge Lights(Two are burnt out), Odometer stopped working(works 1/3 of the time), Passenger mirror has no horizontal adjustment, Liftgate shocks need...
Hey!:) I joined this forum back in 2013, when i got the truck from my from my uncle. He gave me the truck because it refused to start. The truck had been sitting for about 2 years outside his house before i got it. I got the truck home, where it was siting for about 2 years more. On this forum i found out that it was the PATS system that had been activated. I took it to 3 different shops before the last one could do the task needed to get it running again. So finaly, after 4 years sitting it was back up running. The truck have treated me well these years, I have been off-roading, road trips, and regular driving it. I have done upgrades along the way: Specs: -Lifted 1,5 inch on suspension(warrior shackles) and TT twist. -Procomp...
Hi, I used to have a 92 Explorer XLT years ago and was somewhat active here then. After all this time I recently sold my 08 Legacy 2.5GT spec.B and picked up this Explorer. My plan is to use it as my daily driver and use it to tow my Miata to some track days :) The plan for now is to do some baseline maintenance, plugs (praying they don't break in two), fuel filter, air filter, and a transmission service. How it looked when I brought it home. Had a windshield banner tint which blocked my view out, bug deflector and rain guards right out of the autozone special section. First Explorer; First car. First car for a young 18 year old, hoping to last through the majority of at least his college career. She's going to go through hell, as I like to push her and Vermont winters are unforgiving on vehicles, but hopefully with some routine maintenance she can make it through it. She's a Black '99 Explorer Sport 4x4 with the SOHC v6. Most things are stock on her currently, basically only bulbs and a new rear bumper placed on her. Hoping to touch up some of the paint/sun faded spots on the body within a few days. Below is a picture: Modifications will be few and far in between, due to time and funding constraints. A new bumper was placed on, as the old one was rusting and had holes through it. Below is...
Hi I am Matt a volunteer Search and Rescue K9 handler. I have a 2009 Explorer XLT that I have modified for K9 SAR use. K9 Aspen knows a ride in our explorer means fun times. My son and I are always adding new features as we learn what works and does not. I have tried to take photos during the modifications, not just the completed elements. Here is a photo of the three of us leaving for the WA State SAR conference. Colin_Aspen_Matt.jpg The engine and drive train is all stock. My customization is lighting, radios, K9 Kennel and equipment storage. Lighting: Amber strobes and Traffic advisor 14" Off-road flood light Interior lights converted to LED Red/White task light at the cargo area Radios: -Kenwood TK-5710 with dual heads...
Hello, this is my new to me 91 xlt. i just got it from a friend who has had it for years and just got a new truck, he needed space in his driveway and i needed a vehicle and it was one of the two vehicles i was thinking about getting, (an explorer or a blazer were on the top of my wish list) and so i bought it for 300$. Of course, with any 22 year old vehicle you buy for 300$, it has lots of little problems, but i still love it anyway. Almost ran into his new truck trying to turn around in his tiny driveway on the way out after i bought it hehe. Future plans includetrying to restore it as much as possible, this wont be hard inside, as the interior is almost mint aside from a small tear in the drivers seat leather, but i have to fix...
Well since I've been here for half a year and haven't said much, I figured I might as well introduce my Explorer. It and I are the same model year, so I think it makes us closer. We picked it up in March of 2012 for $4000, with 40,000 miles on the motor and 114,000 on everything else. I didn't really drive it regularly until August of 2013, which is when I got my first job. Back then, I didn't really know much about vehicles other than how to change the oil, so that was usually all I ever did to it. The first real work I did to it was replacing the stereo (and putting in a sub) in March of 2014 after my stock unit started crackling. I was on a high school budget, so the parts and work were... shoddy to say the least. I ended up...
