Explorer, Ranger, Mountaineer 4.0 - 4.6 - 5.0 Nitrous, Superchargers, Camshafts, Head Work, Stroker Kits... DRAG RACING. Explorers, Mountaineers and Rangers CAN move!
Hello everyone... My name is Will, I live outside of Memphis TN, and recently (couple week now) purchased Justin146's explorer. She has a little over 100k miles on it but overall is in fantastic condition except for a few issues that he told me about before I bought the X. Issues were... PCV valve shot and the X pukes oil on itself from the valve cover breather... Exhaust manifold leaking due to broken/twisted bolts (he gave me a brand new set of stainless FMS headers, gaskets, and hardware)... Broken fog light housing... and everything that occurs to a car that has sat for 2+ years, lol. Anyways... I flushed out the old nasty rusted out coolant and put some fresh stuff in with some water wetter... I drained out the old oil and...
Ok, my friend's dad just gave me a 500 hp two stage shot of nitrous... I've been looking and figured out that I can run it at 50 hp first shot and 65 hp second shot at the least. As I don't have any real cars (Yes, I mean real cars, GTO's, Chevelles, 80's Chevy Pickups, 442's, etc.) that need nitrous (I'm all naturally aspirated, gotta love muscle) I've been thinking about rebuilding the 4.0L in the Explorer. Well, I want to have fun and just see what the Explorer will do the 1/4 in if I hook the nitrous up to the 206,000 mile worn out engine in the explorer and set it at 100 / 100 . I'm pretty sure that I will blow the motor, but I've never dealt with NOS. I was just wondering if I would end up cracking the block or the heads if I...
:fart:Why does a timing chain break and what dammage did it cause and how did you fix your explorer 5.0? My timing chain broke on a 10,000 mile new old motor. On idle my truck came to a halt. I couldnt get it running! found out the roter wasnt turning and the timing chain was in the bottom of the oil pan. Pulled the valve covers off and I had bent valves and push rods. I had a total rebuild all new valves new harden push rods new springs valve guides everything new even a new doubble roller chain. Put it all back together started right up for 2 minutes than heavy valve noise again. Bent the valves in the #4 piston and push rods. Im really depressed because of all of money I spent. Here is what I have: 1997 gt40p iron heads...
OK, I'm in the final planning stages before I put this bad-arse 302 together. I'm got allmost all my stuff. Gaskets and valve springs are a stop at Jegs on teh way home from being mine. That leaves one final peice to the puzzle. The hardware. I just ordered stainless steel allen head bolts for my headers, oil pan, thermostat neck and valve covers. The Intake manifold bolts and timing cover/water pump bolts are grade 8. 4 of the 12 intake bolts are studs. 5 of the 9 water pump bolts are studs as well as some of the lower timing cover bolts (IIRC.) So my question is, where can I get these studs? Do I need to make them from all-thread? Can you even buy grade 8 all-thread? I think if I can find it I can make it work. I'm...
I didn't know where to post this question, but I figured the "Need for Speed" drag racing section might be appropriate :) (Mods, feel free to move this if you want it somewhere else) Last night I pulled up next to an S2000 at a traffic light, and didn't think anything of it. The light turned green, and I floored it. So did he. And I kept up perfectly. I just assumed he wasn't racing or whatever, but then my passengers pointed out how hard he was shifting, and he was really pushing that thing hard. So, end verdict is, he was driving the S2000 hard, and I kept up in my Explorer. He was pushing his S2000, and I kept up in an 8 year old Explorer with 4 passengers. Was there something wrong with his S2000? Or are S2000s...
