Explorer, Ranger, Mountaineer 4.0 - 4.6 - 5.0 Nitrous, Superchargers, Camshafts, Head Work, Stroker Kits... DRAG RACING. Explorers, Mountaineers and Rangers CAN move!
This thread will document the installation of R P Caster's intercooled Banshee supercharger kit and an Eaton M90 supercharger from a Thunderbird supercoupe into my 2000 Explorer Sport with SOHC V6. Following the installation I will be generating a custom tune using SCT's Advantage III Pro Racer Package. Hopefully, this thread will assist others in performing a similar installation. The components incorporated will be listed here and updated as required. A "Lessons Learned" section will also be posted here when the project is completed. To reduce the length of this thread (to assist those duplicating the installation) this thread was closed until the basic installation was completed. The rationale for the selection of various components...
Started a similar topic over in the the modified section, but figured it would be more helpfull in this section.. Mods, feel free to axe the other thread.. Here is the truck: Fuel management, (megasquirt) Turbo install Currently at 4psi and working good... Turbo is a T4 with a .50 compressor and 1.18 exhaust.. I threw this setup together over the weekend with the spare parts I had laying around.. Cheers,
It's been several years since there's been any posts on this subject so I decided to start a new thread to discuss it. There are several ways to significantly increase the power and torque of the SOHC V6: supercharging, turbocharging and stroking. All three are fairly expensive modifications and many members would probably comment why bother when it's possible to upgrade from a V6 Explorer to a V8 Explorer for less money. Well one reason is the V8 was not available in the 2 door Explorer and another reason is I have become comfortable with the SOHC V6 in spite of its potential timing chain death rattle. I am approaching the end of what I hope to be a successful supercharger installation and for various reasons I am not interested in a...
Parts and Info for my Turbocharged 4.0 from my thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426937 This list is the basic parts (major items) I used to end up with a turbocharged 4.0 OHV. I hoped this could help consolidate information from the thread and from the research I've done to this point. This setup has resulted in great drivability allowing me to keep up with modern traffic. Boost comes on fast if you want to get on the go pedal but it also allows you to cruise out of boost at around stoich or slightly leaner programmed/tuned appropriately to do so. This set up would allow you to run 7 pounds on a daily driver, to this point in time, safely and reliably and I can pass obd2 emissions testing. Smaller...
i am frustrated with Bob of TMH. i have been trying to get him to build me a set of his newest edition, the 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 stepped headers for my Mounty. we have talked on numerous occasions over the last 4 months and i still have no real date. communication is terrible. he has never called me back and 1 out of 10 times i try to call, he picks up. to his credit, he told me he wouldnt take a penny or promise shipment until he had a perfect set of headers. but i am putting my new engine in in 1 month and i need some friggin headers and the standard TM's won't flow enough. well, necessity is the mother of invention, so i decided to come up with my own design. i did this before on my 351w based mounty project and it turned out well, so...
if this is in the wrong place Sorry. just need to know how much horse power will the 8.8 handle. I ask because my boss is building a 97 S10 2wd truck, It has an auto trans and a 400 chevy small block pushing around 550-600 hp and over 500 foot pounds of torque. He is looking for a rearend to handle the power. My question is i have a 97 disc brake rear 8.8 with 4.10's and a LS. will it handle this kinda power?
I figured I better start a new thread, as my old thread goes on forever detailing my 4.0 ohv M90 install, motor rebuild (Funny thing about that), etc. Here's the original thread that brought me to this point: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345617 The issue I am currently having with my M90 install is that I am attempting to increase boost, but cant get the intake charge cool enough. I tried water/meth and had limited results. James with Henson performance just cant do anything more with the tuning till iat's come down. So, Ron at RPCaster (Building an intercooler for me), and Tim (Vroomzoomboom) who is going to perform some magic on a hood cowl (It was either that, or a body lift to get the additional...
Procharger installed, just need a tune and an intercooled setup to finish Ill start off with saying that I have a 97 Eddie Bauer 5.0 with rear wheel drive. And right now the main thing bugging me is the loss of power at 95mph (final shift point), and the 105 speed limiter. I was wondering if a Shift Kit would fix this... And if not, what will? I was also wondering which performance mods I should do, and in which order (for best money to power results) My first thoughts were: Shift Kit (if it will increase my top speed) Ignition System (MSD or Nology, I dont know which is better) Custom Pully (Possibly NO2) Stroker Kit I'm new to fixing it up performance wise and am totally clueless, I have friends willing to help me...
I have been on here for a while now always talking smack of how I plan to do a 2003 4.6 SOHC V8 Explorer project with a Kenne Bell 1.7 L supercharger. Well I lied!!! I decided the 1.7 L supercharger just wouldn’t support enough power, so I went with a 2.2 L supercharger. Just to give people an idea this is the same supercharger (different manifold to fit the 4.6 SOHC) that allot of the 03-04 Cobra fellas are running and making 600+ rwhp with. Here is an outline of the project: Install Kenne Bell 2.2 L supercharger for Mustang GT onto Explorer 4.6. Send stock bottom end of engine off to VT engines and have them build a billet 4.6 bottom end for me, send the stock 5R55W tranny off to Level 10 and have them rebuild it to...
I've been busy with a few projects..... I finally installed my Custom Hood <---Link to the thread here on EF I finally installed the Intake Spacer (another link) I have had on the shelf for months But now I have upgraded my MAF too....I bought a 5.0L X MAF off ebay for $15.00 Here is what I got: Here is what I did to it: First things first....take the MAF electronics off the body I started by looking at the small plate off the back of the MAF...I can only think this was designed to created a little turbulance, slowing the air down a little around the sensor to get a good reading......I removed it. One that little plate was gone, It was time to get rid of that whole pillar in the middle of the MAF...
About a month ago I got Nitrous on my 1994 Explorer and I've been waiting to try it out at the track. Wednesday was the first Test & Tune night at Bandimere Speedway. Currently spraying 50 HP with NGK TR6 spark plugs. After a couple runs the spark plugs looked great. Probably gonna try a 75 shot sometime soon. I gotta thank user jd4242 for his help on getting the kit installed. Up here at 5800 feet above sea level, cars run a lot slower. With only a KKM intake and Dynomax muffer my fastest run ever was 19.30 at 70 mph. Here at the time slips Quite a big drop in ET and good MPH gain. This kit was definatly worth it whether it's racing or just messing around on the streets. Video of me at Bandimere Speedway...
So I own a 2002 3.0 V6 Ford Ranger edge (2WD automatic) and I've seen ford rangers on the internet with 5.0 V8 engines from a explorer. I was wondering if I were going to swap my v6 to a v8 out of an explorer, What year of engines should I use? What kind of modifications can I expect? Is it possible for me to change from an automatic to a manual with the v8? Would there be any other parts from the explorer that I would need for the engine swap? How much would it cost? I would appreciate you opinion, Thanks.
I purchased my Ranger XLT new in September 1993. I ordered it from Ford – even had to wait an extra 2 weeks for delivery due to the floods in the Midwest. After driving the truck for almost 18 years, (including 9 trips across the country) I have put 320,000 miles on the original 4.0L engine and A4LD transmission. The time has come to replace the drivetrain. The new drivetrain will be a 5.0 L engine (SN95) with an AOD transmission. I am going to run my stock BW1354 transfer case. I have already swapped in a 31-spine 8.8 rear axle. The objective of the engine build is reliability and reasonable performance. I am looking for 275 – 300 horsepower, lots of torque, and to start every time I touch the key. I plan to keep the...
