Im new to the forum, wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice. Goal is to cam it, head milling, porting and polishing, and a single 2.5inch exhaust with a good 87 octane tune. Motor has 153k on it. All stock car. Parts list so far: Sealed Power ZH2244 roller lifters, $40 a piece Comp 49-422-8 camshaft, $300 As you can tell I need some advice on rods, valve springs, rocker arms, and gaskets, or anything else thanks
I got an m90 about a month ago but the rotor case was damaged in shipping. NBD, I got a refund. So I got a different rotor case to swap. Swapped them today. Undid the bolts and hammered on the case to get it loose. Then used a crow bar to start lifting th snout and rotors out. I placed the assembly on my benched and, about 5 minutes later, noticed alot of oil leaking. So I'll need new supercharger oil I guess. The bearings on the new rotor case were not in as good condition as I thought. The little rubber seal was deteriorating. So, I took the bearings out of my new one (used a socket to hammer them out, no damage). But ended up going to "All Star Auto Parts" in Redlands, CA to have them install the bearings. I didn't want to mess that...
I finally got the Ex tuned this weekend; James drove out Saturday and we got to it. Turns out I am about to max out my Lightning MAF, so when I retune in the spring for 12psi I will have to move up to a SCT BA3000 meter. The truck ran great, only ran into a few issues- I blew a coupler off about 1/4 mile from the house, and then I blew oil all over the engine bay because of a faulty PCV valve. I stopped by the parts store and got a new PCV valve and a one way check valve and it fixed that problem. We ended up having to drive to I-55 to do the 2nd gear pulls because it turns out my truck will do 80mph in 2nd. We also had some issues with my brand new Xcal 2 datalogging, so James did a warranty claim on it and I upgraded to the Xcal3. It...
I have been on here for a while now always talking smack of how I plan to do a 2003 4.6 SOHC V8 Explorer project with a Kenne Bell 1.7 L supercharger. Well I lied!!! I decided the 1.7 L supercharger just wouldn’t support enough power, so I went with a 2.2 L supercharger. Just to give people an idea this is the same supercharger (different manifold to fit the 4.6 SOHC) that allot of the 03-04 Cobra fellas are running and making 600+ rwhp with. Here is an outline of the project: Install Kenne Bell 2.2 L supercharger for Mustang GT onto Explorer 4.6. Send stock bottom end of engine off to VT engines and have them build a billet 4.6 bottom end for me, send the stock 5R55W tranny off to Level 10 and have them rebuild it to...
I'm going to finally start on my project for fitting a KB 2200 blower to the V8 of my Mountaineer. I've revised details in my head about many things, but it's time to put some in print. I made this below while thinking of others' 302 based Explorers here. Everyone will do things a little differently, and I'm not making plans to produce any parts beyond what I'll have to for my truck. I have four projects planned, and only this one will have boost. The others are my Lincoln, 99 Limited Explorer, and my old 72 Ranchero Sport. The exhaust for the V8's is a must scrap and do over project. The manifolds have to be made bigger, and a simple short log manifold will be far better than anything attempted so far(short of the 1.75" long tubes...
i'm going to turbo my Sport Trac and i have been looking at turbos. i am thinking of getting a 5.9 cummins turbo because i don't want it to spool to fast and i only want to run 5psi at 5k rpm. will the 4.0 push that turbo or would i be better off with a T3 T4 turbo? i am going to upgrade to 24lb injectors and lower the spark plugs 1 temp lower. also i will be getting a SCT Eliminator Single / Multi-Program Switch Chip. i am going to run two programs, one with turbo one without turbo. i'm hoping it will be a little like a street sleeper. help me figure it out turbo guys. Also would it be worth the effort to dial in the cams?
Ok guy's this is going to sound a little weird, but the other day I was challenging my friend to a burnout contest with my explorer, I have the 4.6L V8 with the posi 3.73 rear end,it has no problem spinning the back wheels but only to about 20mph, it left about a 7 foot burn out and then started to stop like it lost power, I really never beat on the car just have a little fun every now and then, I also know it only puts out 240hp and 280 somthing foot pounds of torque but the reason why I think it struggles is because the clutch fan and all the accessories, I really want to get more power out of it so I can have some more get up and go, I was wondering what could I do to achieve this, just a few things on top of my head are (93 octane...
So I have always wanted to do Nitrous in my project Explorer, but the more I read about it, and the more research I did, the less fun it seemed to be on the street, if I wanted to use it and mess with people. So I am expanding my options to a turbo, I can get either a used Garrett, or Ebay turbo for $500 or less, just to try it out, and make a decent setup, but my question is about space under the hood of the 2nd gen Explorer. I will be removing the EC evaporator, and all of the AC stuff, which will leave quite a bit of room on the passenger side of the engine compartment for say a turbo, but to run the driver side exhaust to the passenger side might be an issue, so can I run a turbo with just a single bank of the exhaust? I have read...
So I've been fighting with throwing codes and lack of performance the past couple weeks in the truck. I'm getting annoyed....OK that's a lie, I'm past annoyed. Haha I've reflashed the ecu, swapped in new Bosh o2 sensors and I'm still throwing a PO1100 code. I have gotten all the other codes under control but drivability is becoming an issue now. I'm able to drive it fine if I don't bring it up into the 6,000rpm range, but where's the fun in that? If I bring it up to 6,200rpm during a hard run it stutters BAD between shifts and when power comes back it's only about half what it should be for my truck. I've got a dyno appointment for Aug 10th so unfortunately I won't be able to get any track time until after then. I have...
Okay so as many know, I've been planning on some type of boost for my truck for awhile. I went through a couple turbo options, but when it came down to it.. the paxton kit (i knew a place to get a brand new one) just made the most sense in terms of easy to setup, time, and reliability. This truck gets driven every day (although in the winter it'll be my b2 going out) so i wanted something i knew would not over boost or fail in a major way. Motor this is going on is a built 4.0, 98TM heads p&p stage 3 on a 94 bottom end (result is 10:1 compression), with the 422 cam and some intake work, full exhaust. Parts getting added.. the blower of course, some 42lb injectors, and a lightning maf. I've got a tune from when i had the n/a motor...
