Ok boys, who remembers their math? I've been trying to sort out my analog equation for my AEM digital boost gauge. What I have been looking at is this: http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?1021942-Equation-Formula-inside-for-AEM-Uego-Digital-Boost-Gauge-to-datalog-with-SCT-livelink The gauge swings from -30 to +35 and is a 0 to +5v analog output. That's a swing of 65 points over 5 volts This is the formula: (v*13)-32.0 Problem is, its wrong. It works at 21 lbs vacuum just fine (-21) At 10 lbs boost, the equation gives a result of -1.4 obviously, I should get +10 Now, how do I figure this out using the above info, rather than trying to use a voltmeter and creating boost/checking each voltage? Im...
just started this project tuesday, so dont expect anything crazy yet. i picked up an 01 explorer sport with no motor, no trans on sunday. then tuesday night we picked up a pretty bare lm7 to use for mock up. it has headers, and complete intake to pan. but no accessories or wiring. plan for this build is a stock 5.3, with a built 4l80, and engine bay space will dictate if its twin or single turbo. power wise, i'm going to start at 600, have some fun with it, then push harder and harder until i find the limit the engine will take with this setup. the second motor will be put in, and i'll run a little bit less boost. bringing it home threw slicks and skinnies on it for a little inspiration lol :) cheap motor...
I already have a good safe solid tune done by myself my truck runs great. Just wondering from others how far can we push timing I have drastically cut it back to control detonation. Mostly stock 5.0 pushing 10 lbs of boost. Not worried about blowing the motor I have another engine and I will build it better if that happens. Just wondering what others are running for timing tables. Im about 10 deg at WOT with no detonation. Or any other suggestions on detonation control that would be helpful also. Glad to see others out there with turbos and superchargers been reading through all your previous posts some really nice trucks out there.
This will not be a huge power build and I may not get around to it till summer. I want to run it at only 6lbs of boost, in my low mileage 2001 Explorer Limited. This for ***** and giggles on my preferred daily driver. I will tune it with a Tweecer and larger injectors. I bought a used Powerdyne Mustang 5.0 kit off of Corral.net. The biggest issue will be getting the blower mounted and driven. I unpacked it today and found Frankenbracket pictured below. It moves the alternator down and the blower mounts above and to passenger side. It's the mustang set-up and I need to compare the bracket mounting depth to the Explorer. I will get to a wrecking yard and pull a stock Explorer bracket to compare and work with. The Used Kit As...
Over the last two weekends I took some time and worked on my custom oil pan for the 351W swap. As I made the mistake of going with a Girdle for my engine build up, I was not able to easily modify an explorer 302 pan (by grafting in a 351W rear main portion) nor was I able to use a 351W FRPP Mustang pan without some major re-work. The drivers side header wipes out most of the sump on the Mustang pans and the front oil pump sump is too deep to clear the rack. This lead me to making a completely custom oil pan. I use a cheap stamped 351W truck oil pan as a starting point and cut off the drawn pan section from the mounting ring with about 1.5" side walls, then created the rest of the pan from scratch with 16ga steel, an oxy/acet torch, a...
My 1998 Explorer Sport 2WD is starting to get the dreaded death rattle after 174,000 miles. The body is good, very little rust underneath the vehicle, and i've upgraded 90% of the stock suspension. My options are to either rebuild the 4.0L SOHC / transmission or to drop in a 5.0L, if I go that route I will also have the 5.0L rebuilt beforehand. I've located a 1998 Explorer V8 that was rolled 80,000 miles into its lifetime. The engine and transmission are good and I can pick up the vehicle for $750 OBO. My question is this, I know approximately everything I will need parts wise in order to do the swap, from looking around on here and Google. I know that my vehicle has the PATS system factory, as will the V8 and i'm concerned...
Hey guys, long time no post... I've slowly been restoring the old 01 sport. The paint was pretty shot and I've managed to get it looking 10X better by loving on it with touch-up paint and many hrs of buffing. I've also completely customized the interior to modernize. The truck still runs like a champ and I've had no problems with the turbo set-up. I have not been driving much as I have the 13 sport as my daily driver. However, after I'm done here my plan is to drive on a daily basis. One thing I'm seriously considering is a 3.5 ecoboost swap. The 13 sport I have has pretty much sold me being that it's so much heavier and the engine pulls the weight very well. Not to mention all the folks that have been successful getting...
My 96 4.0 ohv is dieing. She has little power left in her and with 200,000 miles on it, it's understandable. So time for a rebuild. Many ideas are going through my head about what to do. I want the 422 cam pretty bad, but as a college kid, I'm on a budget. So most likely (unless I win the lottery) I was looking at the 410 cam and just going with an "extremely" mild rebuild. I was looking at the rpm machine master rebuild kit: http://www.rpmmachine.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=777 along with the 410 cam and boring the block out .20 or .30. The RPM rebuild kit includes Pistons, Rings, Gaskets, Cam Bearings, Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, Oil Pump, Timing Set and Wrist pin Bushings where applicable. If doesn't include the...
Vehicle: 1992 forest green Ford Explorer 4X4 (<Frikin Sweet) Drivetrain: '99 GT-40P 5.0(4.9)L 302----4R70W Automatic Well i got my engine so i guess its time to start a project thread! The timeline on this is pretty loose. but as soon as possible cause the ole 4.0 is making wierd noises. EDIT: DO NOT be STUPID like me! Don't get a 2wd drivetrain to go into a 4wd vehicle! The transmission output shaft length is different and will require a full trans teardown to retrofit. Luckily one of the other awesome members of the forum has the parts I need to convert. But you may not be so lucky. I doubt most junkyards would sell you Just the shaft and housing. Would rather you buy the whole transmission. Plans: Full teardown and rebuild...
I dont know where this thread should be but it involves my b2 tank swap in my ranger..the b2 tank doesnt have baffles in it and when I take sweeping turns or anything serious with less than 5 gallons I get a fuel shortage and the truck stalls or cuts in and out.. Has anyone used a universal baffle kit or do they make anything for the B2 tank??figured this will be a problem for more than a street truck as a offroad truck with the swap during a flex situation would do the same...
I have a 03 ford explorer sport trac 2wd with the 4.0 v6.. im planning on making a prerunner. I want to know if im better off keeping the 4.0 v6 and adding some performance parts or swap a v8.. If I was to swap what would be my best bet? 4.6l or 5.0l?? What Automatic Transmission? ? I know its pretty indepth and im gonna have a shop do it but I wanna be educated before I make the dive. If anyone has links that will help i would appreciate any kind of help.
