Performance Lighting

Aftermarket lighting. Driving lights, fog lights, rock lights, HID, halogen. Make your Ford Explorer light up the night!!
Hey guys, I have a '95 XLT and I don't like my dash lights. They seem really dim to me, and others have noticed it as well. The 0 - 40 section of my speedo, and my fuel gauge a barely illuminated. The rest of the dash is pretty dim too. And I am aware of the dashboard dimmer switch. It functions properly. Are the dim lights a low voltage problem?? Has anyone else had a problem with dim dash lights, or dash lights burning out? Has anyone upgraded their dash with brighter lights? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Ive always loved the look of HID and aftermarket lighting on cars. On my old explorer, I had the diamond cuts with high temp harness and hyper white 80 watt halogen bulbs. On my new explorer, I wanted to do something new and go beyond what I used to have. Eairly on I decided to buy one of those 9007 HID kits on ebay that are plug and play but after doing some homework I found that they are actually illegal and dangerous to operate due to the amount of glare and stare light they give out. I then decided to fork out the extra money and do it the right way. (Plus I love the way projectors look!) I bought a kit off ebay that consisted of the projectors, 4300k D2S bulbs, ignitors, and ballasts. ($350 shipped) I also had to buy a new set...
I was just on the sylvania website and was comparing the silverstar and the Xtravision. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of which lights the road better (not necessarily looks whiter). The site says that the Xtravision are 30% brighter than stock and the silverstars are 20% brighter than stock, but whiter. I want to upgrade my bulbs to light the road better not be whiter. Which would you suggest?
Hello explorer owners... thought I would share a good tip with you guys from the Toyota forums. If you use 9006 bulbs (I think most of the 2gen maybe 3gen explorers?) you can switch to HIR bulbs and get a noticeable increase of light output. These bulbs do not melt your housing, they do not draw more current, and they are not an obnoxious ricer-color. Google HIR if you want more info on them, but they are a proven technology which increases the light output of the bulb without any extra gimmicks. These bulbs are legal and last at least as long. They are better than Silver Stars (and Ultra, al) and don't need the upgraded harness do-dad. Previously they were expensive, somewhat too expensive... but a guy on the toyota forum I'm on...
Guys, Just got a pair of those aftermarket halo projector fog lights for my '02 Explorer. They look nice, are marked with the SAE and DOT stamps in the glass and so far seem to be of a good quality. They're all over eBay. If you type in "halo" and "explorer," they'll come up. Now a gripe to get out of the way. It took me a month to get these! I let my Paypal account lapse over a year ago because of all the horror stories and the Federal investigations into their practices. I prefer to pay by USPS money order. I don't know what it is about these sellers of Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese auto parts, but they insist on treating USPS money orders like an out-of-state personal check, indicating that it must first "clear" the...
I took some pics and thought I would share this. To run all my auxilary components including 2 sets of front lights 4 rock lights CB radio Aftermarket 12 Volt outlets 3 relays I decided to run 1 aftermarket fuse block versus running a bunch of inline fuses under the engine. I also learned how to run a relay. I won't cover in detail how to wire a relay, but will link that when I find it. What I did enjoy about this is. 1) adding the fuses in the cab 2) keeping an install clean without a bunch of inline fuses. What was a pain in the @ss 1) getting the fuses in the cab 2) running all the wiring to the cab vs. just to the battery with an inline fuse I bought a 12 place fuse panel at West Marine for about $50...
Well if had a few questions regarding neon accent lighting product choices so here we go. There are four basic types of neon accent lighting each at different leves in quality, price, and light output. 1) Streetglow: To many streetglow is the top of the line, the best of the best. It produces (arguably) more light output and is of a higher quality. However, streetglow is expensive. I would suggest using streetglow for Underbody lights. Always go for Gold Series which has a lifetime warrenty as long as the Lexan (outer shell isnt cracked). Never buy direct from the Streetglow site EVER! A GS underbody kit can be had for $137 SHIPPED if you know where to go. Streetglow also has a more moderatly priced brand named OPTX, they are as...
Who here runs HID headlights???? (PIC'S & VIDEO ADDED) I recently bought an HID kit from DDM Tuning and I am not sure what I got myself into. I purchased the 9007 (low beam only) 55w slim digital 8000K kit. Anyone else run this exact kit? Will I need a relay harness? Is heat going to be an issue? Anyone have any pics? Will they look like poo in my stock assemblies, and if so what housings work better? Opinions, concerns, tips, tricks, do's and do not's, preference of 35w vs 55w or vice versa, color preferences, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE SOME INPUT / FEEDBACK........ Thanks
I tried a search, but I couldn't find any wisdom to upgrade the bulbs in our 2014. The intent is to not retrofit HID. I like white light, not fake blue light. I'm considering either: - Narva Range Power +50 - - http://store.candlepower.com/narapo5hi90h1.html - Philips X-treme Vision - - http://www.amazon.com/Philips-9005XVS2-X-Treme-Vision-Headlight/dp/B00BQWQLOU What works well in the Explorer projectors? Does Ford PWM the bulbs? i.e. would a relay harness improve voltage at the bulb? Will "off road" 100W bulbs melt wiring or housings? J_Westy
I just ordered a set of the led bulbs on ebay to replace my map, dome, puddle, and licensce plate lights. My question is what bulb do i use for the cargo light in the rear. I took it out and its not a 194. Its basically a cylinder with two u type hooks on each end. I thought it was a sestoon bulb but they dont have hooks on the end just basically metal ends. Does anyone know what led bulb i can get for this light? Edit: Ok I guess I will also use this thread to show off the lights just in case anybody was curious as to what they looked like.
I'm looking to buy a set of driving/fog lights but don't want to mess with ebay, etc. nor do I want to spend a bunch of money for them... (if that was the case, then I could just buy a set of h.i.d. fog/driving lights) I've seen a couple of nice kits at walmart, autozone, but given the "cheapness" of them, I'm wondering if they are worthed... that's why I want to ask if anybody knows/suggests the best available kit from local parts store (e.g., autozone, advanced autoparts, etc.) of waltmart, etc. b.t.w., i have an '04 x xls (w/o fog sockets)... thanks
