Solid Axle Swap Registry

If you have completed a solid axle swap on your Explorer and would like to share the results with others this is the place to do it:D This isn't the place to talk about a work in progress, rather a place for the FINAL results, specs, instructions etc
I completed my sas and soa setup on my 00 mountaineer. Front axle is a wagoneer Dana 44 with new wagoneer leafs up front. Steering is handled by a Toyota steering box mounted outside the frame. The first test drive was extremely disappointing. The truck drove terrible and the bump steer was uncontrollable. I added a track bar which helped the bump steer some, but over 30mph it was still totally dangerous. Took it to a shop to get aligned. They said the caster was off 5degrees and that is causing the poor handling. I ordered a pair of axle shims and put them in before attempting to rotate the knuckles. Even with the shims it still drives terrible. It darts around the entire time and if you hit a bump, you never know what way it's going...
This was my DD explorer for the last two years........But with my recent purchase of my F250, i'm going to start wheeling the explorer with the family. My B2 is just not family friendly. So i am using the axles from the B2 and building up the Ex. Plan to run 35's and drive it to events vs trailering like i do with my B2. Here it is right after i bought, i had already removed the ground effects and put some 31's on it by the time i took the pic. 4" Lift and 32x11.50s 33x12.50s Little Ditch flex in my Yard had to Lengthened the front drive shaft to fit all that is left up front is to finish the bumper and trim some fender and drill to holes in the rear spring mount to frame and bleed the brakes. Still have to...
So I started collecting parts for my sas kinda half heartedly knowing I wanted to do it and it just kinda happened one day. I meant to start this thread before I started with pictures of all the parts and the process of me doing it. but like I said I just kinda started and forgot. So we are dropping in about 75% threw doing it. So here is how it sits now. I would guess about a 6" lift is where we ended up. This is the beginingish I just got most of the ifs in the front cut out and the d30 sat close to where I wanted it I'm using soa porches from Barnes 4wd and out riggers and there shackle mounts so I got the thing as centered as I could. Here's a pick of the outrigger and leaf hanger tacked in. And that's pretty much all the pic I...
*** STARTED OFF BONE STOCK 1996 Ranger, 2.3L 4 Banger with 5spd for $600 with clean title... The plans were to build a cheap mud bog truck to compete in 4 and 6 cylinder classes. *** So we added a 3" body lift and 4" Superlift Kit, no cats, 40 series flowmaster, air intake and 33x10.50x15 Boggers on 15x8 steels *** So we ran last 2 mud bogs of season and at last one I destroyed both front axles in the dana 28, and we relized for the next season we needed a dana 35, gears and bigger tires and for some reason a roll cage. *** Then for this season we added the Dana 35 with locker in front and 513's and a 8.8 welded rear with 513's on 36" tsls *** Now currently we...
Well I've been a member on here for a few years but have never posted. So for my first post I decided I would add my '95 to this SAS thread because I've done a couple of thing different than a lot of the others I've seen on here. First, let me just say that I'm just an amateur and did all the fab work myself so go easy on me if there is something that you think should be changed. Second, everything has worked well. Besides already doing numerous runs also I've jumped the truck a few times now out at TDS and Lucernce Valley and everything has held up nicely. So here it is. I used a high pinion D30 out of an '88 Cherokee but used leaf springs to keep it simple and low cost. For the leaf springs I used the main leaf from a front...
ok,i just bought this, its technically a 92 frame, with a 97 body on it,i just trailered it home sunday. i havent had much time to go over it,but the few things i do know...it needs a better front axle. the entire drivetrains from a 67/68 bronco d30 front/9inch rear/302 and c4 trans with a dana20 i beleive tcase, its a cast iron case, very very closely resembles a NP205. it needs ALOT of work, but i got a pretty good deal on it,i paid 700 for it as you see in the pics. it also needs new springs all around, mainly, the front leaves are 6 inch {rear} ranger lift leafs.and they sagged quite a bit under the weight of the 302,and the rear is SOA conversion with i beleive 4 inch lift leafs, and 4 inch blocks,id prefer to just get taller...
so after a long time, money burning a hole in my pocket, and the devil on my shoulder..I went ahead and cut up my explorer. I started out with 2 dana 60's..one was a full float with brackets, 4.10's and stupid drum brakes. I went ahead and took the ring and pinion out of that and set the rest aside for a rainy day. Then I got my dana 60 housing, which is a semi float 5x5.5 pattern axle with no brackets, carrier, or gears. i rebuilt the whole thing and stuffed in the gears. after that part was all finished, I went out and got a set of ballistic fab GM caliper brackets and calipers, also I got the old axle out and thrown aside Then the new axle was all ready to be put in..so I switched the springs around in the rear to give me a little...
