Here is the build up of my Explorer for a SFA. The axle I used is a Dana 30 off of a Jeep. I bought the axle in December, so I had plenty of time work on it. I had it regeared to 4.56's. I also installed a Dead Link Removed. I've already got a Dead Link Removed in the 8.8. I put these diff guards on the front and rear too. Cory uses some pretty tough stuff. All of the links on the front axle use Hiem joints for the connections. The links are all customs made by Cory. All of his tubing used on the axle is 1 1/2" OD, 1/8" wall (I think). The coil buckets we used came from a race car magazine. They are adjustable for ride height. After 3 months of having the truck, he...
Ok - after about 4 months of planning and tinkering, Tramp is out! Details: 4.56's Detroit rear, EZ Locker front 37" Goodyear MT/R's 1.25" spacers that convert the rear to 5x5.5 D44 from a '75 bronco James Duff coils, shocks, RA mounts F150 outers up front Steering by CoryL Customs This project was a huge undertaking. I started with a stock '93, added 31's, then a 3" bodylift, then a 5.5" superlift and 35" Xterrains. After too many issues with the front end, I decided to swap. Bought all the parts I needed, but ran into many problems along the way. From brake lines to transmission crossmember, they cam about once per week. Here is a pic of the crossmember cut and braced... I have since added a 45 degree brace...
Grape Ape SAS..finally!!! Hey everyone, I know this is a Ranger, but several people here have asked for me to post my conversion on this board. Enjoy! Here are the main facts: '97 Ranger S/C 4x4 currently running 36" swampers - soon to be 38" SX's Front Axle: Chevy full width, 3/4 ton (8 lug - passenger side diff) Dana 44, with 5:38 gears, open (Lock-Right coming soon). Located by custom radius arms made from 1 3/4" .250 wall tubing. The ends use bushings and the rear mount is the same as a Ranger/EX. I cut up some old radius arms and welded the threaded part into the tubing. These arms will be changed in the future for better movement. But for now, I will just remove one of the upper arms while off-road, to not hinder the...

Hey guys... this is humbling to be able register here. I know that there are like 4 guys going to register very soon. lizardtrac, morrisey0, FMExplorer, muskrat, jeffseal... i know there are others, but these are the guys who have helped me out in so many ways. not to mention coryl - the guy is an inspiration. Started with 1995 XLT with 170,000 on the ticker and a tax refund check! (thanks uncle Sam) I had torn up 2 sets of wheel bearings in the past year, needed to replace control arms, ball joints, my fourth cv axle... in all it was going to be nearly $1k in parts to replace parts that were just worn out... so the old noggin started working. wife got her a new/used car for her and gave me the go ahead to tackle this project. Ill...
91 Explorer Solid Axle Swap Hello everyone. This is a White 91 Explorer. Solid axle came out of an 89 jeep wrangler. Front leafs are new but from a jeep. The rear lift was made by using high arched "soft ride" leafs, and flipping over the axle. There are not any blocks! The front has 12 inch Fox shocks and resevoirs (though resevoirs are not in pictures, i am getting them installed this week. Iwill get new pictures as soon as that is done.) The Truck Has 37" Super Swampers SSR's on it right now but i will be putting 38" Tires on it when these wear out. I still have to measure it next to another but i believe the total suspension lift is about 15 inches plus the tire difference. The frame is 29" off the ground...
1992 XLT Well, I think I was second on this board to swap a 44 under my rig, behind Rick. '79 Bronco Dana 44: - housing cut 6" - pulled out longside tube from outer, cut 6" and press back on and weld - axle shaft cut 6" at LeJeune engineering in Victoria, BC - cut, tapered, and tig welded in the middle of the shaft - no problems - tierod cut down 6" and rethreaded - drag link cut and threaded to accept my Dana 35 TRE and adjusting sleeve - Dana 35 TRE used at pitman arm - coil buckets modified to accept James Duff 3.5" VR coils for EB - stock radius arms - '79 Bronco radius arm brackets - new Dutchman 1541 Alloy rear shafts for my 8.8" for 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern new this week: - '79 housing cut down 3" - BC Bronco...
Solid axle Navajo.. I did my Navajo in early 2001. My chain of events was: installed ARB in front d35. Blew ARB up after using 2 times. When ARB was pulled, and a open diff was installed, bearing caps on d35 pumpkin broke. Decided enough was enough - I also had a Superlift 5.5" lift on it, and was breaking/bending brackets every few months. Pull the navajo into the back of a local shop, and started cutting off the TTB components. We cut 6" off a 1979 Bronco D44, from the passenger side (long tube side). Sent axle to Dutchman for cutting down. Also bought 5x5.5" pattern axles for the rear 8.8, and upgraded to disk brakes at the same time. Rear was running the Superlift SOA kit, which gives 5.5" of lift. Added 2" more lift...
EEE's Solid Axle Swap #1 Shortly after returning from Moab, Utah in the Summer of 2001, I decided that I was going to bite the bullet and go with a solid axle swap, or live axle conversion. The 1991-1994 Ford Explorers were equipped with Dana 35 TTB, or Twin Traction Beam, suspensions, that, in my opinion, leave much to be desired. The pivot points in the middle of the TTB are flex-killers; and if you have any plans of doing any serious rockcrawling, the TTB has to go. The Dana 35 is also equipped with weak aluminum bearing caps. With that said, the solid axle swap provides other benefits besides just flex and articulation. It also provides superior strength, more stability, and tends to stay in alignment much more so than any...
