...This is a compilation of info and links I have found very useful on this site, including items I have learned over the years...Just my favorite links to the noted subject's...:D ...The wheel size does not make the tire rub...The tire and backspacing cause/eliminate this...;) ...The preferred size wheel for the Explorer and Ranger is, 15"x8" 5-4.5 with 3.75 Backspacing...You can fit up to a 12.50" wide tire on this wheel.. ...If you look at the tire size and lift charts here, they will give you the correct amount of lift needed for minimal, to no rubbing with the stock size wheels,(15"-16" tall)...A 15x10 wheel basically will give you a deeper dished wheel and usually, the back spacing size they come with will cause the...
This is kind of a safety issue that I've noticied a few companies are having. My brother bought some Eagle Alloys for his Ranger and had them installed at the shop I work at (I didn't work on it thankfully). Anyhow, few months pass and he was coming home from college and his right rear wheel almost fell off. The lugs somehow backed off. Now - there's no hard evidence that it was because of the wheels needing to be retorqued - but what makes it harder is that he was up at Virgina Tech the day before with a damn UVA sticker in his back window. Pranksters - maybe? Anyhow, so he bought a new wheel and he was good to go. Months later I had to go to a 4wd shop and get some lug nuts and I noticed at the bottom a disclaimer: So...
I picked up a 2000 Explorer Limited V8 AWD for a donor this morning. I will not be using the wheels on it except for rolling stock to move it around the yard. Dad expressed interest in getting the wheels for his 2000 Ranger because he hates the stockers on it and seems to want to stick with 16s due tire availability and pricing. He has a set of 15s he likes, but they are getting more expensive and limited in selection around here. image shamelessly stolen from ebay Anyhow, I won't be using them and he's welcome to them. I'll put the wheels from his truck on the explorer to roll it around. I think the limited emblem on the center cap will be out of place on the Ranger. Are there any other center caps out there that will fit these...
I have a 2005 automatic 4×4 Explorer XLT, all the bells & whistles, sans the 289 V8, & I have replaced rear parking brakes shoes & hardware kit, new rotors, pads, & calipers, also had rear diff serviced & new sway bar links put on. (All parts from TRQ/1A Auto) However, every time I start it & it gets even just a lil bit warmed up, every time the rear wheels make a revolution, I get a whining or winding sound from the driver side, & possibly passenger, rear wheels. It comes. And it goes. It calls for 235 70 16s, but I put some brand-new Dunlop 235 60 16s on it that I bought for $5 apiece, & was wondering if that could be my problem? Any thoughts/input appreciated! Also, it NEVER makes the noise while in the air! Only when actually being...
Does anyone have a 2nd gen explorer with black rims that aren't the super basic off road ones? I get that they do their job and they're strictly about business, but curious what other rims could look like so would like to see some pics :) My teardrop wheels are starting to look pretty bad on my 2000 XLT. I want to replace them, preferably with something black. I kinda want to start going for that "overlander" look, so I found these Vision Overland wheels (okay looks like their website just redirects links but if you search, it's the 355 Manx 2 Overland) that might be what I'm looking for. It looks like they have the correct bolt battern of 5x4.5, but only come in 16x8 (which is fine by me) but the bore is 83.00. Based of what I can...
Apologies for this likely stupid question. We had a 2020 Explorer XLT with 255/65/R18 tires. We have a set of winter tires the same size with no rims. We now have a 2023 Explorer XLT with 255/55/R20. I know that the specs say the 2023 can still use 255/65/R18s. My question is, assuming I can find rims for the R18, is there any issues with swapping from the R20s to the R18s for the winter?
Hey, unless something happens between now and then I'm going to be picking up a set of 18" 5th gen split 5 spoke Explorer wheels this weekend. I plan to be putting these on my '99 Ranger 4x4 after I convert it to live axle instead of locking hubs, but the wheels fittment would be the same for a 2nd gen Explorer. --Short Version-- This is the wheel if I can post pictures: So if any of you have run this wheel on one of these style Explorers/Rangers, what did you use for a spacer and how did they sit on the truck afterwords. Pics are welcome if you want to show off. --Long Version-- Previously I was leaning towards some 17" Mustang wheel, but then I saw these on a Ranger on Facebook marketplace and the look grew on me. I think...
Needing some assistance guys. So here's the problem.... Vehicle: 2005 Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 Over 300000 miles maintained pretty consistently So 2 days ago, thanks to bald ass tires I got caught in the snow. Had a company come out to winch me out. Now a couple times along the way of pulling me out to the freeway he had to jerk it kinda hard to get me free after getting restuck a few times along the way. Now that I'm out the following is going on. First off... Had it in 4 low the whole time. Current Issues: 1. ABS light always on 2. 4X High keeps coming on 3. AdvanceTrak stays off 4. Jerky when accelerating 5. Rough/grinding feeling/noise My background with vehicles is I'm not a mechanic but I know my way around under the...
So wife planned a trip for the family (wife, me, and 4 kids) to Loveland Ski area in Colorado, driving from Alabama (good long road trip). We will be staying in the Georgetown area (around 40 miles west of Denver right off I-70). We will be there in the week of Feb 20th. We got 2 choices of vehicles: 2015 FWD Toyota Sienna 2013 FWD Ford Explorer w/ 255/50/R20 Michelin Primacy Tour A/S Leaning toward using the Explorer. My issue: Colorado has a Traction / Chain law in the area west of Denver. And I was looking at chains, but I'm seeing that the manual for these vehicles says no chains for ones that have the 20" wheels. I'm assuming it's a clearance issue. So what are my choices? Does anyone have a similar vehicle (20" wheels and...
started discussing in the thread with @DintDobbs im inclined to believe MS is to distinguish bias ply radial primarily, and there is no real test, etc going into it, like 3pmsf. i think its at this point just a granted all ties (ok except bias, but theyre so uncommon) are MS at this point, and MS has no major/noteworthy distinction. also pretty sure its up to the mfg to put the MS on it, just like with classifying tires (such as MT, AT, HT, AS, XT) as such, im claiming that its inaccurate to call an MS tire (that doesn't tposess a 3pmsf or have mud tire classification) as a good tire in mud or snow. ive heard MS tires called snow tires before when people ask me about them, they say "i have snow tires on it now" dude youre running the...
Have an 09 ex with the 20" adrenaline wheels. Looking for recommendations on a quite smooth tire brand and model higher end brand. Truck came with 3 goodyear eagles with 30% tread left and 1 new continental. Never owned a vehicle with semi low profile wheels such as these. Always ran all terrains or mud terrains. I do tow with this rig so I guess no car or crossover tires.
The Goodyear Wrangler SRAs on my 2002 Sport Trac finally wore out after 9 years - 7 years of full time use - and just shy of 50,000 miles. They took me everywhere I wanted to go (on the road). 12" of snow, no problem. Packed snow/ice, not an issue either. I was bummed that they're no longer available, but I've known that for awhile. I have Cooper Discoverer A/T 3s on my '01 Sport Trac. I have no complaints about them, but I wanted a more highway looking tread on the '02. After much online shopping, I settled on Cooper Discoverer Enduramax. They have the tread look I wanted, the price was right, and they were readily available unlike some of the other tires I considered. I've had them for 6-7 weeks and have put over 1000 miles on...
Hello everyone: So I'm doing research on new tires, and I've compared most of them but some were to close to tell what was better. So everyone says CrossClimate 2s are the best, but another said Primacy A/S were better. I generic tire comparison site showed Bridgeston Blizzak DM-V2s as the best. Anybody had experience with these tires or has any input? I need more snow capability since we receuve 32 inches of snow a year but still need dry performance also. Thanks!
