Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmission section. Check the modulator. The diaphragm is leaking, and the fluid is going through the vacuum line into the engine.

is the modulator hard to change?

It's not easy, but it's possible. The modulator has the catalytic converter in front of it. You could either get to it from the bottom if you remove the catalytic or from the top if you remove the front seats, and the access panel in the hump area.

plan on getting messy... easy way to check it is pull the vaccum line off the modulator and see if it has tranny fluid in it ... my first ex use to use a quart a week....
