found a loose vent tube

a4ld 1st gen.
i pulled my carpet to clean it today. so i decided to pull up the tranny access panel to see if i could find any lost bolts to the bolt gremlin.
i noticed a tube attached to a bracket right under the panel with what looks like a trim panel push pin capping it off. and i jiggled the line and it was loose.i looked in the general area where it leads to and saw a nipple for a hose right there. no idea if its the tranny or the transfer case, its 3" back from the panel opening on the drivers side.
i plugged in into the nipple and left the cap on. is that correct? or what needs to be done?

i can take a pic if needed to further help describe it

ok the haynes book shows it as the transfer case vent tube. but im not 100% sure its hooked to the right nipple or not. and no idea why they put a cap on it.

The cap is a filter to prevent dust from being sucked in. You did good. Go eat lunch now.

That is how mine is, the one for the transfer case. The ones on the differentials are different, however.
