my 1999 ford explorer xlt suv
transfer case started making like a stripping noise
when driving try it reverse gear did not here anything
forward gears 4 low less noise worst was in automatic when bottom was there
try it with out front drive shaft no noise
can here it good like under my seat in middle of suv
pressing gas hard bad stripping sound please help thanks hope you under stand

How are the tires? Do they all match exactly (size & tread depth)?

i can here the chain job
tires like new
 






i fix the 4x4 working in 4 high and goes in 4 low
but now will not go in auto
seam like is always stuck in 4 high
when turn corner i no it in 4 high can fill in the wheels

my problem was only the drive shaft

do any body now if should be switch
in auto my 2 lights blink in dash 4 high and 4 low for about 10 sec..

or the motor on my transfer case
please reply thanks

and my abs light came on can here a small noise left front wheels to good this be it
 






Sounding like maybe a sensor problem.
 






will this fix my 4x4 to will not come out 4 high

Remove the bolt with 10mm socket, then with a small pair of pliers, carefully induce a small amount of rotation, like 5 or 10 degrees, and also very carefully a small flat screwdriver under the tab. It is all plastic, please be gentle, and keep it coming out as straight as possible.
 












4x4 on auto on my ford explorer

now i have jack up front end to remove tension right wheels turn
left with lock all time
with hub remove same thing left front always lock

when turn my switch to 4 low tried it out side works
and 4 high works
when turn to auto can not here it come off
this is y my front axle is lock at all time
what can cause this

i have move it in N for neutral and front end left side still lock
try back and fort can not unlock the thing
will i need to change transfer case
there is a guy as a 98 ford ranger
but is as 2w 4high 4low on is shift bottom is this the same as my
is auto 4high , 4 low

on transfer,, when it is in neutral where my shift motor goes engine stop
still lock left side front axle lock only

when i start engine and transfer case where shift motor is on N position
no wheels are turning
when move it to H ON TRANSFER CASE ENGINE STARTED WHEELS TURN

connect back on stop working now

will be buying another shift motor tomorrow
and change transfer case oil and if problem not solve soon will scrap this piece

left front axle always stuck in 4 wheel drive
even if i manual shift on my transfer case goes in L and H
when set on N still stock and when suv engine running and transfer case in N position 4 wheel not turning tried it in L and H and 4 wheels turn of the ground
something is keeping the front left axle lock
it is not the hub remove it and still lock
will scrap it soon costing money
and i have no codes on my scanner
 






Explain please, when you say "left locked", do you mean T case in neutral, wheels in air, and you turn left wheel by hand, then observing a corresponding rotation in the front drive-shaft only? And if so, what if you have someone hold the left front wheel, and you turn the right? Do you then have rotation of the front drive-shaft? And what do you have when you turn either front wheel by hand, does the other wheel rotate in the opposite direction?

Have you tried disconnecting the battery? And are you still getting flashing 4x4 lights on dashboard?
To me, that case is MECHANICALLY very simple, but as far as the GEM, I don't know much about that part.
