Hello,

Mine is 2014 Limited and these pics were taken after second winter.
The axles and the exhaust pipes seem too rusty.
How do you guys think? Any advice?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

I'm assuming you didn't treat your Explorer with rust protection spray?

I'm assuming you didn't treat your Explorer with rust protection spray?

When I bought my 2011, it was the exact same thing. The Explorer came with the axles and certain parts of the exhaust rusted. I talked to the dealership and they said it was normal. On top of that, they said rust protection spray isn't really necessary on these new cars. That's why they don't offer it anymore.

No, I did't spray anything. Will it still help if I do the rust protection now?

And if you take a closer look at the 2nd last picture,
it looks like it's going to have a hole where the weld is.
That's the area where my real concern is.
A hole in the exhaust is a warranty issue right?

In my region we get lots of snow (albeit very little so far this year), which follows with lots of salting of the roads.
All of my vehicles that I drive all year round gets treated and not by the dealership, as there are specialty shops that offers the service.

While this is my very first Ford product, none of my previous vehicles have ever shown that type of corrosion (thought it's mainly surface rust in your case).

After this winter I'll take some pictures and come back to show everyone how "clean" the underside is, with the protection from the oil spray treatment.

You can't get rid of the rust, but you can slow it down if you decide to get it sprayed.
The holes around the exhaust will be a concern and I don't believe it's covered under warranty (may want to check with a Ford dealership).

I wouldn't worry about it, nor spray it. I have 5 vehicles over 10 years old and only one has developed an exhaust system issue. That would be my 1999 Escort with 260,000 miles that needs the catalytic converter replaced due to rust through. The bodies are a different story, the exhaust is the least of my worries.

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
I think that everything looks normal. New vehicles coming right off the transports already have rust starting to appear. In the 2nd last picture it just looks like a bad weld in that spot. If it isn't leaking exhaust there, I don't think there is anything to be concerned about.
