supercharged 5.0 true fire 98 explorer sport

hi everyone, my name is tim . i live in selkirk, manitoba, canada and as if this date that i am posting this, i am 36 years old.

i bought my sport in jan 05 from a local ford dealer. it had 111,000KM's on it. this is the second sport i have owned. it was sitting on the lot for about 8 months before i came along. i am the third owner (i was able to track down the person that traded it in, and they got it from a friend, who bought it new in 98).

i started to do a few things to it after i first got it, then i found this site, and all hell broke lose! i've never been satisfied with something the everyone else has, so i started to tinker with it even more.

plus you know you have done something right when.....

your truck (as well as corkey) wins truck of the month

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=296023

is the feature truck on the fun hump day radio show (starts roughly around the 30 min mark)

http://explorerforum.podbean.com/2011/03/23/19-vroom-zoomboom/

and you drive 26 hours ONE WAY to the carlisle all ford nationals in june 2010 and 2011, and grab second place in the s.u.v. all category!

scan00012.jpg

then in 2014 you go back to the same show you have been to 5 years in a row (nothing by most, but its one hell of a long drive) and take first!

the gas chamber is once again open for brain damage.
had time to go out there and start playing around with making the adapter. years ago i saw a guy do something like this to one of my old rangers when i had to take the cat out. it has stuck in my mind on how he did it, i thought it was perfect for this.
started off by squashing one end down in my vise. i have a press that dono gave me years ago, but thought this would be easier and faster. i was right.

1.jpg

made sure it fit the collar

2.jpg

then cut the sides off the pipe. i took the 2 1/2 inch pipe and cut it on a angle. its not a 100% fit, but i can hammer a little her and there once a have a few tack welds on

3.jpg

4.jpg

5.jpg

sad thing is the second side turned out better then the first side, will have to redo it. i was just going at a slow pace doing this, and decided i will finish fitting the other side tomorrow because i was tired........or was in the carbon monoxide fumes.....we just wont know.

That is simply genius!
I cant wait to see the finished product.

the adapter is pretty much roughed in. collar is just sitting there out of love, the rest is tacked however.

6.jpg

7.jpg

not sure if i like the way it looks however

8.jpg

im also worried that i will have clearance issues

IMG_1526.JPG

after looking at 4point's set up its really hard to say. granted his is a v6, i would have to think that the back of the motor sits in the same spot. which would also mean the blowers should be close to sitting in the same spots as well but i am not sure. i have a feeling it will hit the brake booster.

2a.jpg

i took this earlier this year when dono had his motor out. i used my (his old) block, layed it in his truck to see how everything fits. guess i will find out the hard way if it fits in there or not

I think you did a great job making that adaptor and it looks great.
If it doesn't clear I'm sure you can but a bend in it or something to get it straightened out. (if that makes sense?)

On a 1940 Ford F1 we built sitting on top of a 97 Explorer frame we had fender to brake booster issues. Much research led me to a early Mustang II booster only 10" in diameter but still provides the same amount of vacuum boost for the brakes. It bolted directly on and worked like a charm.... brakes were way better then they were with the worn out explorer booster......just FYI if you need some clearance. The Mustang II booster was TINY circumference wise........
I like the home made oval adapter here, it looks great! Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do.....

i figured i would put the "Y" block i bought for the heater hose, and temp sensor on for what ever reason when i fount out three things. first one, i cant move the blower forward enough because of the temp sensor, the heater house fitting it almost in front of the fuel line that will come out of the rail, and the harness for the temp sensor will also go into the snout of the blower.
i love taking 1 step forward and 3 backwards..

I suggest drilling and taping the hole in the thermostat housing and putting the factory temp sensor there. Once the thermostat opens, it will read the same temperature as it would in the intake. That is what i did.

i did toss that around in my mind but wasnt sure there was enough meat to do that. also looking at the pictures (you can only go off them so much however) on rock auto they even have a plug at the top of them so i might not even have to drill and tap a hole

If it is the coolant sensor for the PCM then it needs to stay below(behind) the thermostat or you will encounter fueling issues.
I guess if it is only for the gauge then it may not matter.

I'm talking about switching them around to put the factory gauge sensor in front of the thermostat.

Did you use an aftermarket thermostat housing which has an extra outlet in it, or tap the OEM part? I had an aftermarket one in mind for mine but hadn't decided yet(want to first have the intake/blower etc, all mocked up like Tim does now).
