V6 or V8???

sloxploder said:
The new 24v 4.6 that is directly from the new Mustang makes in excess of 290 horsepower, GO V8!!!!! If I didnt have to buy motorcyle parts and other stuff, id be drivin an 06 V8 right now.

I can tell you, if you are talking about the 2006's without a doubt, the V8, but then again i am a little biased! ;)

Solid power, decent mileage, good pull for off the line or a mountain pass.

I just purchased an '02, xlt v6. I was considering the v8, but the decision came down to more than just the engine. The v8's I saw were either not the color I wanted, too expensive, too many scratches or too many miles. If new, go for v8. If used, go for what you like. No one sees the engine when you are driving.

My wife and I just bought our first Ex (99 2nd gen) I really wanted the V8 until I found out that ford only offered it with AWD. I wanted the option of true 4x4 with both High and low range when I wanted it so I went with the 4.0 SOHC for that reason. I was actually suprised at how well that SOHC runs after driving several 5.0 Ex's.

I'm totally happy with my V6 and just took it to Georgia and back last week with an average of 22mpg loaded down!

Having been a ford man all of my life, I have learned on thing; Never buy a Ford with the first year of an engine's production. I'm quite sure that this is true with most manufacturers. Give them a year to work out the glitches. When the 4.6 originally came out in 1991, in the Lincoln MkVII, they had a ton of problems with it. When they came out with the DOHC 3.0 in the SHO, they had a ton of problems with it. When they put the 3.9V8 in the SHO, they had a ton of problems with it. When they changed from 1.9 in the escorts to 2.0 in Focus's, they had problems (and all they did was change the head)...I can go on but just bor you guys. Stick with the V6 or wait another year for them to work out the bugs in the 3v4.6L. It is virtually impossible to test a new motor for all problems that it may have without making a half-a-million and testing them. Ford does this by making them, selling them and fixing them under warranty or recall.

This could actually be a poll quesiton!

I have an '02 two wheel drive with a v-6 and have no problem pulling a bass boat around with it. I see no reason to need a v-8 for my type of driving. Now if I was 30 years younger, well hell yeah I would want a v-8.

I havent seen a topic get this much attention this quickly in while!!

will you definetely be towing? and if so what? You would be surprised what the V6 and a class 2 will tow! I can pull a 18" bombardie. Did quite a bit of mountain driving in WV with no problem. I drive 70 miles/day for work on the highway and average 24 miles/gallon. My last ex was the 5.0 V8 and I loved it but when I ned power the V6 delivers. Everyone has their own opinions, but your the one driving it. weigh the gas concern with realistic power needs

Well While were talking engines

I have a 94 4X4 Limited that is going to need a new or good used engine (I have a "X" in my VIN) and will be looking for a good source for good used engines, I dont care about towing, I just want it back the way it was and reliableand no knocks....so what are some sources for engines ??

I’ll throw in my 2 cense. I have a 02 XLT v6 and tow a popup weighing just under 3000. It tows plenty good for the flat land we call Minnesota. If I was going to pay for more power I would have bought something else.

heres is my .02 cents worth or did I reply already?? I have the '04 4.6 V8 with AWD and a class II hitch, 3.55 rear. I would get the V8, had a few jeeps with the 4.0 I6 and this v8 blows them away and most cars. With the 8you have more options when driving. Plus you never say, 'I wish I had a V8'.;)

Once but trucks are moving at like 60mph.. My 4.0 can keep up with the V8.. I got intake and Exhuast.. for a v6 its very powerful, i drive it hard and fast, i get pretty good milage. All of my friends are shocked when i tell them its only a 6... One of my family members has the v8 and unless you baby it, it will drink gas.. IF you drive hard, or fast, then def go for the v6. If money is no issue get the v8. The price of gas is def going up for the summer..I dont need everyone hear to tell me how they dissagre.. Im just giving my thoughts... Thanks

This thread was brought back from the dead. I own a bike so I cannot comment on the subject because everything I drive feels slow.

I have a 03 with a 6 in it and it does everything that i want it to. beside the little nit pick bs problems that i have with the explorer in general. its plenty fast on pump gas fast on e85
