Dodge 4.7L reliability?

How's the reliabilty of the Dodge 4.7L V8s? My Dad was told by a mechanic at a Dodge dealer to stay away from them.

Well it's either that or a Chevy. I'd stay away from a Chevy first.

Stay away from any Dodge, as far away as you can. I rank Dodges just below a Chevrolet on the reliability scale.

EDIT: You made your first mistake when you put reliable in the same sentance as Dodge.

Well I've add experience with both Dodges and Chevy's and I would buy a Dodge over a Chevy. Plus you can't get a Quad Cab Colorado with a manual transmission and a V8.

4.7 I beleive - was a 2000 regular cab?(were its just the bench seat and nothing else behind)

I have heard nothign but good things with the 4.7 . Its the last few years V6's that you have to be concerned about.

It was a great motor for all 70k miles I had it, and I wore teh **** out of it. I never had the first problem with it, apart from some cooling problems right before I traded it in. Mine was in a Durango, I had a CAI and exhaust and a cutout and it powered right along just fine, and it sounded pretty cool.

i loved my 4.7L never gave me a lick of trouble at all. only thing thats annoying is the IAC valve gets dirty and can give them a loapy idle but cleaning it once a year is no big deal.

It's a solid engine. I'd be more concerned with the rest of it.
