I found a 93 explorer with a new transmission, but it need a head gasket, the asking price is $500, how hard of a job is this to fix, and is it even worth it, being thre cost to worth ratio.

I spent about $150 for the head gasket kit and another $100 to get the heads resurfaced. With fluids and whatnot, expect about a $300 parts bill.

It's a follow-the-manual repair too. Pretty easy when you break it down into steps and try not to notice you just tore the motor down to the short block. :D

The head gasket kit's $105 at Autozone. It takes a day with regular tools. Haynes is accurate. Special tools need are a T-55 Torx bit ($6) and a deep 10mm socket ($5). The most difficult part is removing the exhaust manifold bolts.

5 will get you ten that one or both the heads are cracked - $250 each.

Other than time your worst case extra layout is $600. (Heads + Kit)

If I can do it, anyone can.

if you dpnt want to do this moose can you tell me where this vehicle is and i would like to buy it.
