24 best (high way).
17 lowest
last checked mpg 4 days ago and got 22.6

Lately I've been getting about 17 mpg mixed driving.

All around driving roughly 16mpg...... All hwy roughly 21mpg

Heh about 15 mpg.

When I first got my Explorer back in March/April of 2005, I was getting 12. But that was with a failing transmission, and 214k miles with a famliy of drivers that didn't take care of it.

When the tranny was fixed with proper maintenance, I was getting about 13-15 in city. Depended a lot on how I drove. Race Style vs. Slow Style. I found a happy medium which gave me a solid 14 at the time.

not sure what it is in town but usually 22-23mpg on the highway in my '93 with an auto.

I just checked mine yesterday and I'm getting 13.3 :(

In stock form my '93 4x4 with 3.27 gears was getting 20mpg in mixed driving.. Gearing, proper maintenance, and driving style is where the widest difference in mpg will come from. Explorers with lower gearing (numerically higher 3.55s 3.73s, 4.10s, 4.56s) will have more power @ the cost of some mpg.

yeah I got open 3.27s, and 4x4 i don't drive it like a sports car I'm pretty much the old man driver now lol

Old post but 200,000 plus miles and 373 gears stock tires rebuilt tyranny best has been 17 at 70 mph for 700 mile trip all hwy driving. Normal mixed lucky to see 14 mpg grrr want more but also does not want to give up my power! I out pull most on the hills. I also have a free flowing exust and a k & N filter but that is it for mods

Bought my '91 Ex in August of '91. Got about 21 hwy, 17 city. Now, 17 years later, I get 20 hwy, 16 city. Same engine. 207k miles. Nothing but basic preventive maintenance to include oil changes every 3k.

my 91 3.55 150,000+ 235/75/15 13mpg Auto
now it is a 5speed i get 13.3 mpg

Now how many of you getting 20 miles or better are driveing 4x4? as I have a feeling a bunch are 2x4 like my nefs he has higher gearing then me and a year newer with fewer miles and gets about 4 miles per better but that is it so next to him I be happy but next to a lot of yous I be sad LOL

Mine's a '94 4x4 with 150k on it
off road around my house- wicked crappy mileage
highway- 19-20 mpg

17 mixed driving
MAYBE 20 highway (I have a lead foot)
This is stock 94 limited 4X4 at 243,600 miles

94 XLT 4x4 with 3.73 LS rear,124,000,18.5 highway at 70mph.Around town...crap.But it's the way I drive.:D

LOLZ! i tend to have a lead foot too and mines a 4x4 so...yeah i drive mixed on daily commute. how much will a 2.5" exhaust plus flowmaster and a k&n boost mpg????

I used to get between 17 and ~22 with 3.08 gears. Thats at about 2200 rpm at 70-75...

Then, my 4th gear died, so now at 70-75, ill be running at about 2600-2800 rpms, and I didnt lose much mileage, interestingly...

This is with my '93 Sport with 289,113 miles on the clock.
