t-case banging and popping

I know their are many forums about this, but they don't seem to help me. My 98 xlt 4.0's front end pops and bangs while turning in 4 hi and 4 lo, It also pops like this when in a hard pull in 4lo and hi. It grind in bangs really bad while turning. Not on pavement.. all on dirt. The 4hi and lo lights started flasing today on the instr. panel. and it will not engage in 4hi or 4lo by using the switch. In auto it still engages but still pops and bangs and grinds will turning. Also if im going down the road let off the gas then hit it again it bangs and jumps.. then it good.. but it does it everytime. someone please tell me what it is or direct me to a good forum to help me out!! please!

Sounds like a bad transfer case.

yea, and it is getting worse... i found a used t-case at pull-a-part for $70 with a warranty...
