Hi to all,

I'm working on a 98' Explorer, 4.0 SOHC; I changed the tensioner and the cassette in the driver side --for what I have read here it was a "normal" problem-- and after I put everything back together I turn on the engine and it did start but I had a water leak in the thermostat area, but after a min I started to see water from the rear of the truck, a quick inspection lead me to the catalitic converter, water was literraly poring from the joint.

So the question is:

How can it be possible to get that much water to get into the exhaust pipes?

thanks for the help guys!!!

BTW my friend bought the explorer as a non-operative vehicle so we didn't knew what else was wrong with it.

Water out of exhaust means blown head gasket. Sorry.

Thats what I tought... damn...

Well at least I'll get to learn a bit about another engine...

Thanks!!!

blown head gasket for sure.

Might be that the cheesie plastic intake mainifild died and the head cracked and or gasket blew. My last explorer died the same death.

If you like your car replace the plastic intake manifold.

My 98 OHV has that plastic intake manifold on it, same with my 05 SOHC. It looks cheap, and not too great.
