Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires.If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

hey guys.. tires are new to me in terms of all the necessary knowledge to do my own thing; however, could anyone tell me if i can put 255/70R16 size tires on my stock 97 limited rims? . I was also wondering if anyone knew if limiteds' in 1997 came with 255 tires. I don't think they did, however I just wanted to ask.

thanks for info everyone. best website ever.

i know for sure that the 97s did have the option of having the bigger sized tires, as my 97 sport came with the 255s. now im not 100% sure that the limited edition X came with them. most people on here can fit the 265/70s or 31" tires on their X with just the stock suspension, so im assuming you should be good there

I have the original pamphlet here and limited came with 235/75r15s OWL all terrain tires... only Eddie Bauer, premium sports package had 255... good question tho and I"m glad that a bigger tire can fit on the stock 97' limited rims.. I've been wondering that as well.

mine is a 99 sport and it came with the 255's so would I be able to run the 265/70/16 with stock suspension?

I'm a 2000 Explorer XLT, stock height. Anybody know where exactly a 32 rubs on the fenders? Could I effectively compensate with wheel spacers or rims with less offset?

Hello everyone

I read with very much interest this thread
My truck X94 have stock tires and wheels.
I put on it 2" lift.
Could you say me , it's possible putting on wheels 15/7 (stock) this tires

TOYO PNEU OPEN COUNTRY A/T 30/9,5 R15 104S
or
BF GOODRICH PNEU A/T KO 30/9,5 R15 104S

Thank you very much for advices and explanations

:exp::exp:

I'd reckon those would fit, even 31 x 10.5 shouldn't be a drama.

I just mounted 275/70-16's with no problem on my 01 Sport. There was plenty of room and it looks like I could possible go 285/75. I have no lift of any sort.

Yes, I think that from the year 95 or 96 wheels mounted on the EXPLORER increased in diameter 16 ".
the question I ask myself, my X94 to 15 " original rims.
If I pass in 16 "it is not too tired of the elements of transmission and engine?????
My gear ratio of 3.46 is well for 15 " but 16 "?????
Thank you for explanations and advices

:exp::exp:

Your wheel size will not affect your gear ratio, only the overall diameter of the tire. But since you're not increasing by very much you don't have to worry about your ratio.

What is the largest tire size I can fit tastefully w/ out rubbing? It does have running boards..Any help would be great..Thinking 265/70/16...Is that to much?

3 inch body lift – 33x12.50x15 on 15x8 rim

I am planning on doing a 3in body lift. I have stock OEM Ford rims. Do I need to get new rims to fit those tires? Will the stock gears turn these fine or will I be putting some serious wear and tear on my trans?

lift kit

i had a couple of questions about lifts. ive been havin some trouble findin a lift for my 2000 ford explorer xlt. and i also was wondering how much i could go up with suspension lifts and body lifts before i have to get a longer drive shaft

Can I put Cooper Discoverer ATR tires ( 225/70R/16) with CHROME rims which are 16" x 7" , 8-slot design ,5 lugs and have a 5x4.5 (5x114.3) on a 1995 Ford Ranger? I am not sure because the Ford Site doesnot show 16" tires.

..The reason you may not find the 16" wheel option on sites is because the 95 Ford Ranger only offered a 14" or 15" wheel..

..The wheel height is only a problem when you are trying to put a shorter height wheel on a vehicle..You will be fine with a 16" wheel..;)

..Be sure to check the back spacing though (bs)..The stock bs is 4.5 while a 3.75 is preferred...

..It seems the 4" bs is commonly sold at this time which is fine too..

Ok, so I am looking into getting 31x10.5x15's. Does anyone have any good websites where they have purchased tires through other than tirerack.com and discounttire? The tire shops here locally want close to 1000 for 4 tires that size....ridiculous.
