I am thinking about running 3" pipe all the way back from the y-pipe with gutted cats and a 40 series flowmaster. I am skeptical because I don't want a splatty sound and waste all that money...
Should I just play it safe and go 2 1/2?

I'm running 2 1/2 inch from just behind the third cat. This with a Edelbrock RPM series muffler (about equivalent with a 70 series Flowmaster). Nice sound at cruise and opens up nicely when throttle down. I want to go to 3 inch the next time around. I can't think of a reason why you would regret the larger pipe..

people will tell you that you will lose low end if you go three inch, and you may, but the sound and upper RPM's will be so worth it. Besides, its a V8 and it seems like you are all about modding it anyways...nothing to lose.
