03 Explorer 4.0 engine/transmission

I want to know how many miles a well maintained 2003 4.0 will run for? It has 106,000 miles on it and of course I have to replace the notoriously bad transmission. Is it worth spending $3,000 on a new transmission?

my family has two of them - one at 110k and one at 180k - both running strong. but i wouldnt pay 3k for a new tranny... just get a junkyard one with the one month warranty - installed it shouldnt cost more than 1k

hopefully others on here who have swapped trannys will chip in ?

If it is done right the first time it is worth it. My '02 has 95k miles on the original trans and engine and still running strong.
