My 01 ST has rear drum brakes, i was wondering if anyone converted them to rotors and calipers using the stock axle? Was going to use the search but wasn't sure what to type in there.

You'd probably be better off just switching the whole rear axle with one from '03-'05 in terms of time and money. I can't think of anyone having swapped them, but it is possible.

Whats everyone upgrading to? Dana 44s or Ford 9.75?

It'd be easiest to swap for an 8.8 from another Sport Trac and probably cheaper. The 8.8 is a good axle. A lot of Jeepers try to get ahold of our axles to replace their rear D44.

not sure still a newbie, still learning

The Jeepers are going from a D35 rear to the 8.8. Not from a D44.

I believe that Ford Racing and Summit both have rear disc conversion kits. A D44 isn't any stronger than an 8.8" unless it's built and a disc brake 8.8" is a lot more plentiful and will drop right in. May have to change the master cylinder too, I'm not sure.
